Suppose a major league baseball player has hit 8 home runs in the first 15 games, and he keeps up this pace throughout the 169-game season. Express the number y of home runs in terms of the number x of games played.

  1. A major league season is 162 games, not 169. If he were to keep up that pace, and play all 162 games, he would hit 86 or 87 home runs (86.4 is the exact number, but you can't hit .4 of a home run). 8/15 x 162 = 86.4 If the season were 169 games long, the formula would be the same, just replace the 162 with a 169. 8/15 x 169 = 90.133 (90-91 home runs).
  2. I don't do people's homework for them. Thanks anyway.
