How many people think that Pete Rose should be kept out of the Baseball Hall of Fame?
I know that he gambled on baseball, which seems to be the biggest sin a ball player can do, but he did it as a coach, not as a player, so why should it keep him out of the hall of fame as a player? If this is so bad, what are they gonna do with players like Rafeal Palmerio who are sure to be on the Hall of Fame ballot.

- I totally agree!! :)
- I think he's a real star, but he did gamble knowingly so I think he should be kept out. Don't hate me for saying so. Hall-of-Famers are there for integrity as well as skill.
- its politics
- He was a great ball player, his accomplishments should be rewarded. Didn't he pay his debt to society, or must we keep punishing him?
- Keep Pete out. As far as Palmeiro - just don't vote for him. There ought to be some sort of criteria which automatically bars you from being on the ballot like rampant steroid use.
- i think he should be allowed in. he was a great player who never used steroids or did anything on the field wrong. didn't use steroids he made one stupid off field decision and hes out ot the HOF thats stupid
- I think he should be allowed in the hall of fame because he earned a spot there before he became stupid and bet on baseball. He was a great baseball player and should be recognized for it. We all know he isn't to bright but he deserves what he earned.
- let the people decide. i vote for Pete Rose. He didn't take steroids, he didn't beat his wife, he didn't snort cocaine. All of these crimes are forgiven by baseball. Gambling is as big a habit as is drugs, alcohol, etc. Give him a break. He has contributed great things to the game. Pete belongs in.
- Keep him out. The game has been degraded enough. Bonds should be frozen out as well.
- even though he gambled on baseball, i agree this sdoes not affect how he played baseball previous to that and should also not affect him getting into the hall of fame. in a world where someone like mike tyson can chew off someones ear, get banned from boxing for life & then get re-instated (money talks...bs walks) i think pete rose has already been punished enough
- Everyone cheats at or on something in there lifetime so i say yes put him in the hall of fame ta me thats no diffrent than putting a rock star or country star in the hall of fame for there kinda music
- It is the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Morals. Pete Rose has over 4,000 hits and leads the majors in 17 all-time categories. I don't care if he murdered Joe Morgan on the field he should be in the Hall of Fame. F.Y.I. for those of you not familiar with Joe Morgan he is an espn analyist and was Rose's teamate on the reds at 2nd base.
- Personally I think they should put him in the hall of fame. So what he gambled many of people gamble everyday. That is like Pete Rose finding out something person all about another coach and then making it public. He should not get punished for this. I feel they should stay out of people person all lives. What he do with his money is his business. He worked for and made it he can gamble on a chicken fight if he feels like it. PUT HIM IN THE HALL OF FAME!
- well....i think he should go in the fame...ur right he did it when he was a coach not a player....and i dont think he would go in the fame as a coach but a player....I think people who took steriods should be kept out....there the ones who cheated. If a coach use to be a player and they did steriods as a coach( i dont think that would ever happen but its jus an example) but never did it as a player....he shouldnt be kicked out of the fame for doin the drugs as a coach.....u get wat im saying
- I have a feeling that he will eventually be voted in to the HOF, but not in his lifetime. I know that sounds mean or what not, but the "Baseball Gods" don't want him to have that pleasure even though they know without a doubt his numbers speak for itself. As far as the players that are or were involved in the whole steroid scandal, I say create a Steroid Hall of Fame LOL! More realistically, maybe add astriks by their name (with a syringe pointing to it) HAHA
- Screw gambling, look at Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Rafael Palmeiro... Which one is actually cheating? Especially since he gambled FOR his team. That's not cheating, that's confidence. Also, you should look at his playing record, come on, he holds four records: Hits (4,256); Games Played (3,562) (That's >1 hit/game); At Bats (14,053) (For a .303 lifetime batting average); and Total Bases for a switch hitter (5,752) (That's sixth all-time) Pete Rose is a legend, plus, I don't think he did anything wrong if he gambled in favor of his team winning... Put him in Cooperstown!!!!!!
- I do. Whatever Palmeiro is at fault about does not excuse Pete Rose. He knew what he was doing, and he knew the consequences, and he did it anyway. Case closed. God Bless you.
- Pete Rose should ALREADY be in the hall of fame. The Hall of Fame should be about baseball and the stat's that a player put up during his career. It should have nothing to do with his honesty, morality, ethics or whether or not he's a likable person. They let Ty Cobb in and even his team mates hated him. If Baseball wants to punish Pete, then don't let him attend his own induction ceremony. BUT Pete deserves to be in the hall of fame!
- He is the all time CAREER hits leader, he should be in the hall.
- let me start with PETE ROSE is one of the top 5 baseball players of all time!!! i know shoeless joe jackson was bannished from baseball for gambing..but pete put in more then 25 years as ball-player :0 into baseball trying rise the level of play, and spread the word of baseball in the late 60'S and 70"S. i know it was a stupid thing to do to bet on baseball.. but they put worse people in the hall of fame and might even put, even more worse people in the future #cough#barry bonds#cough#. and if baseball doesn't see what a mistake they are not doing in not remember a great player, over just stupid mistake then i guess people aren't allowed a second chance.
- I am from CINCY, and I say its OVERDUE time for Pete the greatest ever and now he needs to be in the hall.
- You know, if we kept everyone out that did something ethically questionable, the Hall would be a very empty place. Lots of inductees did drugs, especially during the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I know that Roberto Clemente was involved with drugs, and have heard that he was caught smuggling them into the US....but I have not comfirmed that. Bottome line is that Pete Rose should be inducted as a PLAYER. He earned that by his on field performance during hi career. Keep him out as a Manager, no harm done. In my opinion he wasn't a very good Manager anyway. But, he deserves to be in the Hall of Fame...bottom line.
- YEAH HE SHOULD
- He can go in the day after Shoeless Joe Jackson is inducted.
- I don't want him in there, I would compromise though, he can be in the hall but he can never have another job in baseball again, fair enough? then we have a deal.
- I am a fan of Pete Rose even though he helped the Big Red Machine, beat my Sox in the 75 World Series. I know he probably gambled, but feel it's time to put this behind us. So he lied, President Clinton lied and most forgave him. Let's induct him into the Hall now!!!!!
- Honestly, I'm really not sure on this one. Part of me agrees that since the mistake was as a manager let his accomplishments of a player be rewarded, but another part wants to keep the Hall of Fame full of players and people of integrity (like the person way above me mentioned). It really sucks because he was an amazing athlete. I think he has his reward though. He's adored by many because of his not being eligable for the HoF. I mostly think that MLB is making an example out of him, and I doubt they're going to back down.
- Hall of Fame - IN Baseball - OUT
- I think Pete Rose paid for his mistake and should be in the hall of fame. There are greater offenses that have been committed by baseball players that are being ignored. Namely....STEROIDS!!! Any player juicing to get an edge should be banned for life. Pete Rose made a stupid mistake, but he did not change the outcome of any game by betting.
