How good would Joe Dimaggio be in todays game?
Public Comments
- He'd be great. Probably making more money than A Rod.
- not to disrespect joe dimaggio, but athletes today are bigger stronger and faster than they have ever been before. i believe he could be successful in todays game however i am not sure he could be a dominating force. pitchers throw 90-100 mph fastballs and 12-6 curves routinely. the game has evolved and changed so much it would be hard for him to adjust.
- You cant compair todays players from the older ones. Way to much has changed sence then. I would be willing to say this tho. With his talent he probley would be just as big and fast as todays players that he would do well.
- His average might not be as high but he'd still be one of the best center fielders in the game and could make A LOT more money for his Mr. Coffee commercials, lol.
- Joe had all natural talent. He'd be as great today as he was 50 years ago. His consecutive hits record will stand for all time. Today's athletes are chasing that record. Joe was exceptional. Course I am biased.
- I am not a big DiMaggio fan, but there are a few things to keep in mind. 1. Ballparks were bigger. He was arguably the greatest defenisve center fielder ever, and he had to cover a lot more ground than the Andruw Joneses and Jim Edmunds of the world had to cover. 2. He would have hit more homeruns. Yankee Stadium was a hard park to hit homeruns in for a right handed batter. Yes, Fenway hasn't changed, but with some of the ohter bandboxes DiMaggio would have hit for more power. 3. He would have stayed healthier. World War II notwithstanding, modern medicine would have taken his perpetual foot problems in the last few years of his career and cleared them up. That being said, I do not put him above Mays, Aaron, or Mantle on the list of greatest oufielder ever. But he'd be great these days.
- His talent was so outstanding and his game so flawless, I think he would be sensational today. I think he missed 4 prime seasons to military service. Id like to see him play his career with all the nutritional and sports technology advances available to him. He always took good care of himself. Yeah, Joe D. would be a superstar in any era.
