Joe DiMaggio

How did Ichiro NOT break Joe Dimaggio's hitting streak when he hit a record 262 hits in a season?

He got 262 hits in a season! A new record. Thats at least 1 hit to almost 2 hits for every single regular season game. How did he not break the 56 game hitting streak, let alone an entire season hitting streak? explain how he didnt break that streak......... I dont understand why he didnt break the streak especially with that many hits.

  1. Pretty simple really. He probably had a few short hitting streaks of 5 or 10 games and then took the collar. He may have gone 4 for 5 one game and 0 for 4 the next. Anyway he had a ton of multi hit games, that's for sure.
  2. Because he had some games with 3 or 4 hits and other games with 0 hits. That just goes to show that DiMaggio's streak will probably never be broken. The closest anybody has come to breaking it was still 12 games away. The translates to only 78.5% of the streak. edit: Here is the breakdown by hits per game for Ichiro in 2004. 0 hits - 27 games 1 hit - 54 games 2 hits - 46 games 3 hits - 24 games 4 hits - 6 games 5 hits - 4 games His longest hitting streak was only 21 games.
