Are the New York Yankees the new Boston Celtics?

The Celtics have won a championship now, and I think either the Yankees or Liverpool are the new Celtics. By that I mean, we have a great history to look back on but very little to celebrate recently...and now we cant say that about the Celtics. I'm a diehard Yankees and Liverpool fan.

  1. Yeah
  2. i don't think your team is going to take as long between titles! i can't stand the yanks, but you need to remember that the coach they all loved got let go, and donnie didn't get the job. not too mention the fact that the front office is a bit crazy right now, and you never really know who's running it. though i'm loving it this season...the yanks will be back to normal before long.
  3. How many World Series have the Yankees won? Something in the 30's I feel bad for them.
  4. The Celtics had a great history before this championship. People are only noticing this because this is their first championship in awhile.
  5. Consider this, since there have been 30 major league teams, Only 3 teams have won more than once. The Marlins and Red Sox each won twice. The Yankees won 4 times, including 3 in a row, participating in 6 world series (nearly half) and reaching the post season EVERY YEAR. Nobody has more world series appearances than the Yankees all time (39 out of 100), and of teams with more than 2 appearances, only the Pirates, who won 5/7 have a better world series winning percentage (The Yanks won 26/39, for exactly 2/3). Now all that shows great historical significance, and its not so far in the past as the Celtics (until recently). Nor do the Celtics, who are comperable to the Lakers and Bulls in having several great dynasty teams, compare to the Yankees. No team in the history of professional sports has won more championships than the Yankees. The Canadians are next in hockey with 23. We passed them in the 1990s and never looked back. Consider that the teams of the late 1990s were Gene Micheals Yankees. He built that team and when they came together in 1996 they started winning and kept winning as long as they held together, taking 4/5 under Torre's leadership. They started aging after that and Micheal's formula started to break down. When Brian Cashman took over as General Manager, he didn't have control right away. There was way too much micromanagement and a lot of bad moves. Eventually, Cashman said that if he is going to stay with the team, he needs the freedom to build them the way he wants. He won that freedom and began to do just that. We are getting very close to seeing Cashman's Yankees now. Several of them (Joba, Wang, Melky, Cano, etc.) are in the majors now (although Wang is out now for 10 weeks). Several are coming up but not performing to their potential yet, if they ever do. Several more are rocketing through the minors. There's enough talent that we will see soon who pans out and who doesn't, but we'll have a good team regardless. Add that to the veterans Cashman has chosen to keep, much of which is home grown, and I think the future of the Yankees is in good shape. This year is tough, as have been the last few. But keep in mind that every team goes through rebuilding. Torre kept the yankees in the post-season every year while rebuilding and they are only 5.5 back and 5 games above .500 and on a 5 game winning streak now, in a division that appears to be the all around best in baseball (based on the records). They're in better shape now than they were at this point last year (they were 8 back and only 3 above .500 with a 2 game winning streak 1 year ago), even without Wang for a while. Moose and Pettitte have learned how to pitch with the stuff they've got now and are both fantastic. Joba has been doing great and his conversion to the rotation is now complete. Rasner has been a surprise hit. We've got enough minor league arms to will in for Wang for a while and can potentially trade for Sabathia or someone else if we have to. And in the last 2 games, we've outscored our opponents 21-0. I think we'll be OK. Also, remember, most teams take longer to rebuild than this. The average victory should be 1/30 years if all the teams were equal. We have no intention of waiting that long. We have been competing while rebuilding and are capable of winnning this year even though we're probably about a year or 2 shy of completing the process.
  6. who cares...kudos to the celtics...yes laker fan here. But I will say that tha arrogant Biotch Kobe is real sorry for having the team get rid of Shaq. that team he has is so dang green it made me sick to watch. As far as the yankees they won 27 world series. they suck butt. Oakland in the house and Giambi was your downfall.
  7. The Celtics are itching closer to Yankees there yet they ten more wins in order be our league. Yankees all the way, Adam
  8. Flacosalsa, it's 26 titles & they don't suck. What have the A's done lately? Yankees & Celtics both have a team history in each of their sports & both have won more titles in their respective sports than any other teams
  9. The Yankees have the most recognizable name in sports throughout the world and there is no need to compare them with the Celtics, or any other franchise.
  10. Until the Celtics won the championship it was over 20 year since the last one and the Yankees haven't won since almost a decade ago so I guess if your comparing, yes.
  11. The Yankees are by far the best team in baseball HISTORY, nobody is debating that much (which is what you said). But also as you said, they haven't done anything recently, and I don't see it coming, at least not this year. If they get some pitching than it's very possible they're contending for the World Series next season. This year I do think they'll pull off a wild card, because eerybody knows that as bad as the Yankees look now, they don't ever just go away. I'd say they get the wild card and are out in the first series.
  12. OH COME ON!!!!! youre crying now because your team hasnt won in 8 WHOLE YEARS? talk to giants fans, or indians fans, or even mets fans
