Joe DiMaggio

If Ted Williams & Joe Dimaggio played today do you think they would be better then Albert Pujols?

Albert Pujols is the best player in this era but if Ted & Joe played today would they be 1 & 2? or would Pujols still be the man. Ted & Joe were skinny but with hgh today would they be buffed up ripped sluggers?

  1. That's a tough one. To be as great as they were back then they must have put in a tremendous amount of practice and must have some very solid work ethic. If they brought those basic skills to the present game of baseball I think they could be better than Pujols.
  2. Ted Williams was..is incredible what he could do without the juice outstanding Joe too
  3. Firstly Dimaggio...a classy CF, that puts him above Pujols and his career was interupted by WW2. Without hormones Joe would be great today and put up even better numbers. Got more personality than Pujols...but Pujols would have simlilar numbers. Because Joe was with the Yankees, that's a boost for him...yes, I put him up there. Williams as a a pure hitter yes..but Williams was a surly character at times. But, yes, he's considered as the greatest hitter ever..by some, he would still hold his place. But, come on, how can you rank them. A Rod's got numbers above Pujols too.
  4. Absolutely! Alot of people put up better numbers than Pujols
  5. Who really knows? Considering baseball is now racially integrated and taps the world's best talent I doubt it. I remember one time in an interview where Hank Aaron admitted the players of today are simply just better. There is so much more going into development of players then back then like specialized instruction, weight lifting, dietitians, scouting, etc...
  6. Ted Williams was the greatest hitter to ever live. Of course none of us will ever get to see the great hitters like Joe D or Ted play. When Albert hits 400 or better then he can be compared to these guys. Although there is nothing wrong with Pujols. I think in time and barring any serious injuries Pujols will live to be one of baseballs greatest hitters. In answer to your question though Ted and Joe D were still better.
  7. I think Pujols would still be the man
  8. Lets put it this way if Ted Williams was still with us today and he gave a hitting clinic to MLB players all of them including Pujols would show up shut up and listen and learn from the most amazing pure hitter to ever play the game . Joe was pretty fantastic as well.
  9. Yesterday, today and tomorrow.
  10. No, they'd be so old they barely be able to move around. I doubt they'd be able to play at all, much less be better than Pujols.
  11. This is a great question but a very hard one.Do you how much things have changed today? Even the baseball equipment has changed,,the mitts, bats.I'm sorry but to say that Ted,and Joe would be ripped Bc they took Steriods is unfair.I don't belive either of them would have been ripped and buffed up.and i belive they both would have been better sluggers the Pujols.
  12. Both would be superior fielders to Albert and Williams was the best pure hitter of his generation. It's also arguable as to which era had the better pitchers. I think Ted would be considered the best overall hitter and Albert's power would overshadow Joe D's all-around game. I don't think they'd be "ripped" sluggers today....They'd be more in the mold of players like Ichiro, Grady Sizemore and Chase Utley.
  13. Williams yes, if for no other reasons than his reflexes and amazing eye sight. As for Joe D? I think Pujols would be better. Buffing them up may not improve their skills one bit. Consider all of the things that have come into vogue since Joe D retired - majority of games played at night, ESPN covering EVERYTHING, trans continental travel, artificial turf, domed stadiums, situational relief pitchers, influx of African American, Latino and Japanese players, universal set of umpires, etc. Joe D was a private person always conscious of image ... Williams and the press NEVER got along so I don't think that attitude would hurt him today.
  14. You are talking about three of the greatest hitters to ever live, I think it would be a situation where maybe this year Pujols has the better year, then the next year it's Williams...all three are great hitters for average and for power. DiMaggio gets a slight nod for being an oustanding defender. Pujols plays an easier defensive position, but to his credit he has worked hard to become an excellent defender. Williams never was all that interested in fielding... For the people who hint about Ted Willams being "surly" or something like that - remember that this guy put his life on the line - TWICE - to protect your sorry behinds. Williams didn't have to go to Korea. It would have been a lot easier for him to stay in the States and get to 600 career HR, but he volunteered and he was a fighter pilot being shot at on the front lines. I'm sure every time he had some dumb reporter asking stupid questions or some ignorant Boston fan booing him he asked himself "why did I defend THESE people?" He earned the right to grumble a little, and emerged as one of the great ambassadors of the game in his later years.
