First Baseball All Star Game Knowledge Base
Where can I find some info about the major league baseball 2009 all-star game? What I am looking for is the top 5 players with the most votes for the all-star game for the positions catcher, first base, second base, third base, and shortstop for each league. I am also looking for the top 15 outfielders with the most votes for the all-star game for each league. I have been checking the newspaper for the last few days and the newspaper did not tell me. Somebody please answer my question.
Who was the first baseball team to win a world series but didn't appear in the all star game that current year? I was just trying to think in my head who has ever done it. I know baseball is a sport which tones of stats and this is one i've been thinking about. So the team had to of been good enough to fight through the season and win the division and then win there league and win the world series. But not to have a player good enough to be honored in the all-star game. Obviously not previous to the introduction to the all star game in 1903 (i believe that is when it was intro'd)
Baseball Fans : How do you vote for the All Star game? What I mean is do you actually choose players who deserve to go or do you choose the players who have that All Star tag with them already so they go anyways. Also do you pick your players for your team first and then start you start to pick the deserving players. Just wondering does any one here actually not vote any more like myself ? The Heckler - LMAO thanks I should try doing that =) .
When will the NHL use BaseBall's All-Star game policy and award the winner Home Ice advantage? The NHL needs to get serious if they want to compete with the other NA Major Pro Sports. First, they need the team in Vegas. If you have ever been to Vegas than you will know what I'm talkin about. People say the city cannot support it but they have over half a million people, plus tens of thousands CONSTANT TOURISTS, who, because they come with their families alot, will SPEND MONEY, like they would do at ANY OTHER SUCCESSFUL Vegas show. Hockey wouldnt be any different the Cirque Du Soleil or anything else that is a Vegas mainstay. Check out the Thomas and Mack Center when you get a chance as it is 3 blocks from the strip and close to the aiport and it can seat over 19000 for hockey. Hockey players are usually good boys and you can gamble in any city in the U.S.A so thats a poor arguement. New York? Los Angeles? C'mon, cash as no home. Next, Bettman needs to get his head straight and fix his debacle of an All-Star game. GET PEOPLE INVOLVED and make the game WORTH WATCHING When people can watch their Conference win and ensure that if they make it out of their respective Conferences they will have Home Ice then you will get a lot more viewership because it means something. I'm telling you it's that simple, and it's a good way to begin. I'm talking baout having the winner of the game get Home Ice for the Cup. Vegas can definitely support the team plus the game is very international. Might be number 3 or 4, possibly 2. Just wait, its coming, just a matter of when they pick up my contract. I can tell most here have never been to Vegas, when you do you will see what I mean. It's gonn happen, jus a matter of when. As for the All-Star game, with about 30,000 people watching it (including Home Attendance) you need to do somethin. This is a PRODUCT that NEEDS to be SOLD. It's not working at the moment, doesnt even matter how you slice it, so you need to do something. I'm sorry but some of you guys need to start thinking ahead. Oh, and when you say "honey lets go see a Hockey Game" and you think it wont fly, take in account that it will be in 80 different languages, marketing should never be underestimated, ever.
Expand the All-Star game? This is a two part question. First, I was wondering, since the All-Star game "means something", why not make it a best of 3 series? That way, all the players invited to the game (either by fan vote or by manager selection), would actually get a chance to play. And the world series home field advantage isn't decided because of a weird ricochet off of the wall in right center. Second, I would love to see an expanded skills challenge for the baseball all-star game. Such as hockey, football, and basketball currently have. What other events could baseball come up with other than the home run derby to get the other all-stars involved? Ok... lets "PRETEND" that players aren't worried about getting injured during these skills competitions. The other 3 major sports have more than one All-Star skills competition, and I think baseball should to. My question is... what other events could be added? Let's all not try and take the easy road out and say that they shouldn't add any. That's not an acceptable answer here.
How cool was it that President Obama spoke with the commentators at the All-Star Game? Im not really into politics but I like this guys charisma. Inviting the professor and the cop to the White House for a Beer, throwing the first pitch, going to the Wizards game...down to Earth and cool guy. But my favorite was the color commentary at the All-Star game. Seeing the president in a Cardinals jacket and talking baseball was priceless
MLB changing & putting new rules for the All Star Game. Your thoughts? Story inside->? NEW YORK (AP) -- There will be two extra All-Stars this summer. Rosters have been expanded again by commissioner Bud Selig's special committee for on-field matters, with each team bringing 34 players to the July 13 game in Anaheim, Calif. A pitcher who starts on the final Sunday before the All-Star break will be ineligible to pitch in the All-Star game and will be replaced on the roster, Major League Baseball said in a change announced Wednesday. In addition, a designated hitter will be used in the All-Star game every year, including in NL cities. The DH has been used since 1989 when the All-Star game was played in AL ballparks. There would have been a DH anyway for this year's game. "The changes are designed to make the All-Star game as competitive a contest as it could possibly be," said Rob Manfred, baseball's executive vice president of labor relations. The players' association already has approved the changes. All-Star rosters have steadily expanded. There were 28 players per team from 1969-97, and the size increased to 30 with expansion in 1998. After the infamous 7-7, 11-inning tie in Milwaukee in 2002, when teams ran out of pitchers, rosters expanded to 32 players, including 12 pitchers, the following year, when the game first started counting for World Series home-field advantage. The size increased to 33 players, including 13 pitchers, last summer, and will now be 34 players, with 13 pitchers per team. Under a change that runs contrary to normal baseball rules, each manager may designate a position player who will be eligible for re-entry to the game if the final position player -- at any position -- is injured. Previously, there was a special All-Star rule allowing re-entry only to replace an injured catcher http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/baseball/mlb/04/28/all.star.game.changes.ap/index.html?eref=sihp
Which city should host the All-Star Game? I think that Washington Nationals should host the All-Star Game because the baseball team had returned to the nation capital for first time in 30 years since the Senators moved to Minnesota to became the Twins. What is your opinion that which city could host the All-Star Game.
Why should fans have a vote in the All-Star game (please hear me out first)? The moment the game went from exhibition to high stakes the fans should cease to be involved in making decisions. Since home field is on the line I think it is very wrong of baseball to let fans make decisions. I do think fans do have the right to a vote in an exhibition but this is clearly not the case anymore. People have jumped on me because they say the game is for the fans and while it is it has not been an EXHIBITION for quite a while now. A sports exhibition does not count for anything but clearly it does in this case. One reason why the players voted in Manny is because those players feel he is a great hitter and he gives them one of the better chances of winning. If this was a true exhibition with nothing on the line Manny probably would not have been selected by the players. He still won't play because he has stated before he prefers not to play during the break. But clearly some of the players decisions send a clear message. GET RID OF THIS STUPID HOME FIELD CRAP!
How many N.L fans will be in attendance at this year's All-Star Game at Angel Stadium in Anaheim? This year's all-star game will the first in SoCal in two decades and there's gonna be fans just chomping at the bit to come. San Fran Giants fans are hard core baseball fans as well as their counterpart the Los Angeles Dodgers fans . . . these fans WILL stand in line to get tickets. Padres fans are also pretty big time baseball fans (when they're good) and San Diego's passion for baseball is no different than the other two. The Angel fans are pretty much the lonely A.L team who's fanbase is neither as big as the Giants or the Dodgers and is pretty equal to the Padres fan base. I'm just thinking that this year's all-star game could have more N.L fans than A.L fans in an A.L ballpark. It's gonna be interesting to see.
Your child wasn't a first pick for the All Stars but now they need him to play as a replacement, your reaction? One of the assistant coaches called me today and asked if my son can play in the All Star baseball game this week because one of the other kids can't make it...family vacation or something. I was a *little* upset when I first found out he wasn't picked before but I am really happy he gets to play. The reason I was upset before was that the only kids asked to play were coaches' kids, regardless of their skills. I kept my opinions to myself and accepted it, and moved on. On the phone, he said that my son will make a great replacement and is as good as the others so they would be honored for him to play. He didn't sugar coat it and feed me a line of crap, and I really respect him for that. If something like this has happened or would happen to you, how you would feel about letting them play? Just for the record, I'm not mad (anymore) and didn't make a big deal out of it earlier. I'm just happy my son gets to play. BUT I know a few other fellow moms who would have said no to be spiteful.
what happens when the all-star game is a tie? (and thoughts on the game)? first of all, WOW what a game! it reminded me why i love baseball. not too impressed with dan uggla , but me being an AL fan, i can forgive him. but i kept asking myself durring the late innings..."who gets the home field advantage in the event of a tie?" anyone know? and please feel free to share your thoughts on the game
Is there an MLB all star game curse? Call me crazy, but i think a a new curse is starting in major league baseball.. I call it the "Midsummer Classic" curse. Since 2005, every team that has hosted the all star game has either not made the playoffs or have not won a playoff game. 2005: Detroit Tigers were the host, they finished 71-91 and did not make the playoffs 2006: Pittsburgh Pirates were the host, and of course, did not make the playoffs. 2007: The San Fransisco Giants hosted, and did not make the playoffs. 2008: The ALMIGHTY New York Yankees hosted the all star game in their final season at the old Yankee stadium, and even they did not make the playoffs! It was the 1st time since 1993 that the yanks did not make the playoffs... 2009:The St. Louis Cardinals hosted, however they did make the playoffs. They were the first team to win their division, but they were swept in the 1st round by the dodgers. 2010:The Angels hosted this year, and although they were 2 wins away from the world series last year, they are on the brink of not making the playoffs this year. What do you guys think? It may be a coincidence since this is pretty recent, but i think its an interesting curse to consider. Since 2003, only the 2004 hosts (the houston astros) won a playoff game...so I'll say the curse started in 2005.
Do you like interleague play??? Or do you belive it ruins the World Series and All-Star game.? Im not a HUGE fan of interleague play, but I wouldnt mind it being done away with. I like the match ups when it is Chicago Vs Chicago...NY Vs NY...Oakland Vs SF...LA Dogers vs LAA Angels...Cleveland Vs Cincy...Texas Vs Houston...TB Vs FL..I like thoe whole interstate/same city rivalary match ups....and I think baseball should come up with a away to keep those kind of match ups. But in the end, I think it ruins the World Seires and All-Star game a bit. Dont get me wrong, I LOVE the idea of the winner of the ASG have home field advantage in the WS it is great, but it was better when the teams dont play each other, makes it more special, get to see players on the same field, and different rules for the first time in the year.. Same goes with WS, it was better when the NL and AL didnt play each other in the season, made the WS more exciting, cause you would never be able to see these two teams play eatch other. I dont know...what you guys think...
Ready for an end of the first month of baseball survey? It's gonna be a fun survey that somewhat requires you to think :) 1. How has your team done overall this month? 2. Which team are you most impressed by so far? 3. Which team are you unimpressed with so far? 4. How was opening day like for you? 5.How do you think your team will do in May? 6. How many baseball games have you watched so far this month? 7. How many walk-off wins has your team had so far this month? 8. How has your favorite player done this month? 9. Who are you picking to go to the all-star game? 10. How many pregame shows have you watched so far this month? 11. Describe your team's month in one word? 12. What was the highlight of the month for your team? Sorry about the survey being so long, I just kind of felt like asking a lot of questions :) Im gonna be doing these types of surveys once a month so be ready :)
Do you think that the All Star Game should determine home field advantage in the World Series? I think it's a bad idea and it should be changed. Yes I am saying this because I am a Yankees fan and this is the first year in which it negatively affects me, and yes, if the American League won I probably would not be saying this. Let's say that the Yankees won the American League Pennant. If the second half went the same way that the first half did, then the Yankees would have the best record in Major League Baseball (and yes I realize that this is a long shot that everything goes like the first half but this is hypothetical and you can substitute anyone in for the Yankees for all I care, I'm just trying to make a point). The Yankees would go to the World Series with the best record in baseball and still they would not have home field advantage, does that seem fair? The World Series is not a competition of leagues, it is a competition of two teams. Those two teams cannot be accurately measured by the league they play in. Nineteen out of the last twenty-four World Series Champions have had home field advantage. Something so important cannot be determined out of an exhibition game that no one really tries that hard in. You cannot disadvantage the team that played better during the regular season because they play in the worse league. There is a reason that nobody else does this and it's because it's not fair and it should be done away with! @ Sephiroth It's almost as if I didn't specifically say, "Yes I am saying this because I am a Yankees fan and this is the first year in which it negatively affects me, and yes, if the American League won I probably would not be saying this." Oh wait a minute, I did, how about that? Maybe you should read the entire question next time before making your comments.
how don't the dodgers have a legit all star? they have the freakin best record in baseball and dont have anyone in the all star game. manny might not even make it... orlando hudson is tied for the most hits in the nl. hes been on fire and i must say, adrian gonzalez should be startin at first too
All-star Baseball 2004? I'm playing this archaic XBOX game & I can't seem to get the expansion mode to allow me to bring created players to my team. First it makes me full up my roster with players I don't really want then when I try to bring over my own players it tells me I have too many players & I can't leave roster mode (which lets me pick my own guys). But it won't let me release any players (that I know of) & my minor league lists are alredy full... so I just sit in roster management mode with nothing to do (I can't even exit the mode without restarting the game). Anyone who, 50 years ago, played this game - is there a way to simply "get rid of" extra players on your roster? I tried trading the extra players away but no computer team wants them because their lineups are full too.
Baseball.........Can you slide into first base in any league? I just came from my grandson's all star game......saw several kids slide into first.....my son said the pros do it.........I said I don't think so........there would'nt be anyone brave enough to play first base.......My grandsons team won......12 - 11 ...... good game. GREAT answers..........how can I pick the best............thanks to all..........
How much money could I get for this? Around an 14 inch bat from opening night from the first game at Miller Park from 2001. And a offical major leauge baseball that has the logo from 2002 All Star Game with blue and gold stiching in it's oringinal case.
Why has Baseball forgotten its fan base? It seems that Baseball of today has gone away from Daytime Baseball, except for the Cubs. Night Baseball is hurting the sport with the younger generation. The All-Star game went for almost 5 hours, 4 hours and 50 minutes. I feel that we as fans have to write the Commissioner and express our dislike of how Baseball is today. The sport is in danger of losing the next generation to Football, Basketball and Futbol. Bring back Day time Baseball, start games at 1:00 p.m. local time, 1:20 p.m. for the Cubs. Bring back the Doubleheader (I mean a game that will be played following a 30 minute break between the first and second game) not a day-night double admission thing. Playoff games should start in the day time, end the season in the third week of September, and bring back the 154 game season.

Would you ever want to attend the Super Bowl? Why or why not? I most likely would never want to attend the Super Bowl for three reasons. First, the cost. The cost of one Super Bowl ticket is expensive and with the money that I could pay for one Super Bowl ticket, I could purchase a High Definition Television. Second, I would have to deal with a lot of crowds at the event. Although it would be a dream to attend the Major League Baseball All-Star Game but with the Super Bowl, you have to get to the game early and there is going to be more people attending a Super Bowl than a baseball All-Star Game. Finally, it might be more expensive to attend at Super Bowl after you pay for accommodations for about three day and attending all the Super Bowl events that the host city has to offer. If I ever did want to attend the Super Bowl, I would like to see the Super Bowl in Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, and in Cleveland.

What can I do to help my 10 year old son get Thu All Stars as a catcher? When the baseball season first started (first year as catcher) his catching hand hurt right below the thumb. Then it got better and he caught the whole season every game. Now he has made all stars and his hand hurts again, to the point he can't catch. Is there anything I/he can do to to get it to stop hurting. We think it is bruised. Tried ice, advil, different glove and even rested it for a week.
do you like this clean and funny joke?? President Clinton and his wife are at the first baseball game of the season. At the start of the game the pitcher comes up in the stands and whispers something in Clinton's ear. All of a sudden Clinton looks at Hillary and yells, "Okay, Hillary, GET OUT!". She looks surprised but leaves. The pitcher looks at Clinton and says, "No, I said to throw out the first PITCH!" GIMME A STAR!!if you liked it.. ya can also add me to ya contacts i post jokes everyday.
What does the Pro Bowl mean? What is the point of the Pro Bowl? Like in baseball they have the All-Star game and whoever wins it they have the first so many games played on their teritory. So what does it mean to win the pro bowl? What do the players get and so forth?
Is this good for me(baseball-hits)? we had a double header today, the first game i went 0-3, 2 strikeouts, but i did get on base cuz he dropped in on the last pitch, and a fly out that the outfielder just got to, second game i went 2-3 with two singles and im really fast so i stole 2nd both times i got on, 1Rbi, 1 run, we still lost 5-4 though, but im not sure if i did good with that record(13 years old, and that 1st pitcher was huge and was in the all-star game, throwing really fast) The 1st pitcher only gave up 3 walks and no runs, so im not the only one who didnt get a hit, but i did make great contact, no1 else hit it to the outfield, but the outfielder was playing so deep so he was right there, O well
Did you hear the latest Major League Baseball News? Obama wins Cy Young award? The Cy Young Award is an honor given annually in baseball to the best pitchers in Major League Baseball (MLB), one each for the American League (AL) and National League (NL) Obama won this award for all of the preparation he put into his first pitch at the all-star game and showing outstanding courage while on the pitchers mound. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRGK3QfcEqw
Pitch for baseball card game. Would you play? OK. It's a baseball card game. You open packs of cards,(potentionally $$), and you recieve an assortment of players. Think Madden Ultimate Team or NHL 11 Ultimate Team. Some stink, some stink but can improve(prospects), some are decent(bench players), and occasionally you'll get a good player(starter). You'd make collection difficult, i.e. there are few starters and virtually no All-Stars given out.. which means you need to buy/open lots of packs to get a competitive team. In the mean time, you must build a team pack-by-pack, getting better each pack you buy. You create the lineup, starting rotation, and bullpen. Once actually in game, I was debating whether it's a board game or computer game that you plug-in player codes.. computer gives more options and I can program, but board games you can play anywhere. Anyways, I was thinking of using an APBA system(http://www.apbagames.com/stadium/index.html)... wouldn't be hard to program anyways... What do you think? Bust or good idea? Original? Business plan or no money to be made? Would you play? P.S> All players you don't put on your 25 man roster you can keep in the minors, i.e. a deck of cards, and you roll the first time they're promoted to see how good they are.
How can I get my team to have a good first inning? I play baseball on an all-star team. We always start the game very tense and make stupid mistakes that shouldn't be made I.E. dropped fly balls, bad throws, etc. We have innings that there are so many errors that it is like they get 5 to 10 outs that inning and score a bunch of runs on us. Then the next inning, once we relaxed a bit, we go three up three down.

Just a little baseball survey if you're bored (:? hey guys, i haven't been on here as much as i used to be. now i'm just bored waiting for the yankees/twins game to come on later, so i decided i'd ask something in case you guys needed to pass some time too... i missed the baseball section(: 1. well first, i have to ask. how do you think the game will turn out, if you're going to watch it? score predictions? 2. would you rather watch a game with dominant pitching or a slugfest? 3. what team do you think has the best-looking uniforms? the worst? 4. apart from your favorite, what team are you the most familiar with/do you follow the most? 5. do you have a favorite player on your least favorite team? 6. if you HAD to switch out one of the players in your starting lineup with someone from a different team, who would you choose to get rid of and who would you replace them with? 7. who have you been voting for for the all-star game? (just a few) well i wanted to get 10 questions, but i can't think of any more right now :P thanks for answering!
Should Overtime in the playoffs be changed at all? Since the Sharks and Preds went to 2OT and the Stars and Nucks went to 5OT in their first games and some people have cried out against marathon's of OT. Mostly I've seen it from sportswriters who say it's good for the game, but is it more so that they don't have to stay up til 3 AM to write their articles? My personal opinion is that they don't have a Home Run Derby after the 10th inning in baseball and they don't have a slam dunk contest after the 1st OT in basketball so I don't see why hockey should be any different. One final question, does the fact that it's the playoffs now change your opinion about how OT should be managed?

What 5 things about baseball should never change? And what 5 things would you change if you could? Things I think should never change: 1. The commissioner having the ability to veto trades (or any other moves) in the best interest of the game. (of course, we need a commissioner with the guts to actually do it, but I can always dream) 2. The use of the center field camera as the pitch comes in. 3. Ballpark giveaways. What can be more fun than going to a game and getting a free floppy hat or bobblehead? 4. Ballgames still being broadcast on the radio. While I do watch more games than I listen to, it's nice to have the option. And baseball is still the only sport I can actually "see" on the radio. 5. Vin Scully doing games for the Dodgers. I wish that human cloning was allowed just in his case, so that future generations could know what the old school broadcasters sounded like. The same could be said of a lot of the old timers, but Scully is the best that is still actually working. Things I would change: 1. Eliminate inter-league play. To me all it has done was built "false" rivalries. As a Cubs fan, I find it laughable when a Cubs fan says he considers the White Sox to be a rival, and vice-versa. Same goes for fans in other 2 team cities - New York, Los Angeles or the Bay Area. 2. Get rid of the All Star game determining home field for the World Series. As long as you have fan voting, and require every team to be represented by at least one player, you will never truly get the best 30 players from each league. Let the game be a true exhibition game again - a chance for the fans to see the players they want to see, whether they are the best or simply the most popular. And don't even worry if it ends in a tie. Put a 12 inning limit on it, and if the game is still tied, just call it a tie and move on. Home field needs to go back to the old way - alternating it between the 2 leagues. Then there are no complaints because it is all predetermined. 3. Eliminate the DH. Pitchers hitting for themselves was somehow okay for the Al from 1901-1972, why should it have to change. And I don't buy the argument that pitchers can't hit. I'd bet that most MLB pitchers were good enough athletes that they could hit at one time. But since the minor leagues and college ball don't let pitchers hit anymore, they don't get the chance to do so. Eliminate it over a span of about 10 years - ask the NCAA to get rid of it first, then slowly move the ban up the scale - get rid of it in A ball for a couple of years, then move the ban up to AA for a couple more, and then AAA for 2 more years. Then , once pitchers have moved up the ranks, it won't be as big a shock to MLB to have them hit. 4. Starting time for playoff and World Series games. While I certainly understand baseball wanting to be in prime time throughout the country, it makes no sense to me that an 8 year old fan on the East Coast can only see an inning or so before. Start them at 7:00 eastern, or maybe even play a game or 2 during the day. Sorry if that would mean the folks on the west coast will miss a couple of iinings, but it's more important to get fans seeing the tail end of a game then the beginning. 5. Come up with a better system for evaluating umpires. Make all umpires in MLB and the affiliated minor leagues employees of MLB itself, rather than the minors hiring their own. If an umpire grades out low, send him down a notch and replace him with a AAA umpire is deserving. Particularly they should look at the ability to call balls and strikes. As a former umpire, I never realized that the strike zone was subject to interpretation. A pitch 6 inches off the plate should NEVER be called a strike, regardless of what the umpires "interprets" a strike to be. And if an umpire can't call it according to the rule book rather than their own opinion, they should be demoted or find another line of work. Ok folks - your turn. A chance to actually rant a bit without breaking any of Yahoo's rules. Have fun.
8 Baseball Jokes!? 1: A young lady arrived at her first ballgame during the 5th inning. "The score is 0 to 0," she heard a nearby fan say. Or as the Tigers call it, baseball fantasy camp. 5: What is the difference between Yankee fans and dentists? One roots for the yanks, and the other yanks for the roots. 6: Why is it so hot at Phillies games? Because there's not a fan in the place. 7: Well, at least the Cubs are trying. They installed a new pitching machine the other day. Unfortunately it beat them 4-1. 8: Spring training is very important. Which of these 2 unlikely MLB baseball events will happen first and why? The Chicago Cubs winning the World Series, or the National League finally wining the all-star game? And why do you think that one of these 2 most unlikely events will happen first? Remember the Chicago Cubs haven't won the World Series since 1908. And the National League haven't won the pointless All-star game since 1996, so at least one of these unlikely events happening, during my lifetime, which the National League winning an all-star game, but always hav found some way to blow it since 1997. I don't know about you, but I for one, will not be sad, if the 2010 Alll-star game gets canceled, or moved to the moon, to see if the same event will happen there, with the National League choking in the all-star game.
would more interleague play be good for baseball? i know that many baseball are purists or close too it, many dislike the idea of baseball changing as a game. i can respect that. but i feel like this may be an instance where change is good. all of the other major leagues feature frequent cross conference matchups, in the nba and nhl you play every team in the league over the year, the nfl would have that too if there were enough games. perhaps baseball shouldnt follow just because everyone else does it, but the reason there were no inter league games in the first place is long gone. major league baseball is really one roginasation now. i think more interleauge would be fun. there would be more matchups. somehow staying in your league for almost the whole season seems restricting. i feel like it would make things more fun in a number of ways. the world series teams from last year playing each other. an old star getting a chance to come back to his old park in the other league. interleague rivalries like dodgers yankees would be alot better. you would still get to play againsnt teams in your league and divison more. i just dont see any reason why it would be a bad thing. also, give a great experience for alot of misplaced fans
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Persian Baseball League, to settle all conflicts? The people there are pent up, they need an outlet and to have fun. I say we start a baseball league. Here are some team names. The Iraqi President can toss the honorary first rock on Opening Day, and a woman can be chained at home plate. The crowd can join in after. Here are the teams to start with initially: The Baghdad Bombers The Cairo Camels (sponsored by the cigarette co.) The Tehran Terrorists The Shiite Happens Kurdistan Flying Karpets The Jerusalem Jewels - a team that is rivals with most others Jerusalem Stars - only team its not rivals with are the Jewels. The Kuwait Oilers - a mad billionaire's plaything The Kabul Turbans and the small market Basra Insurgents Baseball is a fair game where every one gets a chace, and imagine settling conflicts through sport. Fan giveaway days can include potable drinking water for the first 15,000 fans, Russian army surplus rocket launcher, always a fan fave. + Prayer during 7th stretch. Any other ideas? yes sleepy, we would pay for the whole thing. in the outfield of the Baghdad Bombers we would have big bonfires and a river of cash dollars flowing into them. That would be quite the facade.
what are my chances of making a college baseball team in florida as a walk on? im 21 years old. attended a college that had no baseball program. and now i feel i want to play baseball because i have talent that should not be wasted. first of all let me start from the begining so you know my credentials. i played school baseball from 7th grade to 9th for my jr high schools freshman team. as a star shortstop starter. then played 10th grade jv as a 2nd baseman star starter. then my 11th and 12th grade i ended up getiing cut from my varsity team due to not going to class and poor grades. i kept playing baseball in summer leagues in new york. my last summer ball season i played in i was 18 years old started at short and led the league in all categorys except stolen bases i came in second. i batted over 600 and fielded flawlessly. but being from the inner city and haveing no guidance i thought that after high school thats it. and if u didnt get offered a scholarship for college ball that was the end of your career. i ended up moving to florida after that season. stoped playing baseball for 2 years and then came across an adult league. i began playing and quickly shook off the rust and ended up getting invited to play for thair allstar team. i am now 21 and interested in playing college ball for a division 1 community college team. only problem is i dont know where to start or look. i just played in my first game back for this central florida adult league team and went 2-4 with a 3-run hr to dead center, and an rbi single with 4 rbi's on the day, and turned an unassisted double play at 3rd base. playing college ball is somethin i really want to pursue and im not sure if im too old or if im not good enough to play division 1 and i dont know if there are any division 2 or 3 teams even in florida. my main concern is i want to play college ball and i want to play for a college i know i'll be good enough to play for. my whole thing is i know im a damn good ball player with enough talent to take it to the next level and play for the top team in the state. but i dont want to enroll in a top community college and then end up geting cut. i'd rather go play d-2 and know for a fact i can play for thaT school. and still get a college work out and then transfer. so please anyone that can help me please do. thank you
2009 Major League Baseball All-Star Game on UK Television Channel? Will there be a UK Television Channel broadcasting the 2009 Major League Baseball All-Star game? I recently re-located to the UK and I am kicking myself that I may miss the MLB All-Star Game (especially since it is being held in St. Louis this year and that is my home town),
Major League Baseball All Star Game tie? What would happen? If the All Star Game should end in a tie tonite the way it did in 2002, which league would have home field advantage in the World Series? I know this isn't likely, but please answer the question based upon the assumption that it does happen. Thanks.
Am I the only one out there, who misses the video game "All Star Baseball" by Acclaim? I asked this under Baseball, but now I want to see what gamers, who play sports games think. Was there ever a better MLB Baseball game made that encompassed as much of the entire experience of Major Leaugue Baseball? The final edition made ASB '05 included "Fielde Cam" which no one has been able to re-create. Expansion Mode, creating a team from scratch and ADDING them to the existing league, expansion draft and all. Minor Leagues, Amateur Draft, Rule 5 Draft, Payrolls with Market discrepancies, the list goes on & on. I've played every game made since, and promptly went out and traded them in. The best baseball game I've played since, is MVP '06 NCAA Baseball by EA, but that's a College game and their MLB games never matched Acclaim. 2K Sports. WEEEEAAAK! I keep playing ASB '05. And I always stop playing a sports game when the next crop arrives. Not this one though. It's just superior. Except in Graphics. Anyone else feel the same? Well I Guess so. ??????????
Did you hear the boos that BARACK OBAMA got at the baseball All Star game ? There were some people who actually booed him. It was not that many though. Most of the people there gave him a big cheer. The city of Saint Louis adored him greatly. So what else is new. Anyway. Our country will get back on its feet once again in spite of the chaos. What do you think about that.................
How are baseball players selected to the all star game? Is it really totally by the fans? Because I've been thinking about it and usually fans of a team would usually vote for the players on their team. Therefore, wouldnt the team with the most fans have their players selected to the All-star game? But when I look around (at least in 2008) players like David Wright and Jose Reyes weren't selected for the All-star game even though they play for New York which have a lot of people, and the Mets have a lot of fans. Plus, D. Wright and Reyes are great players themselves.
Is Baseball's All-Star Game the only one worth watching? The NBA and NHL All-Star Games are offensive explosions, with none of the defense that wins titles in those leagues. And the NFL's Pro Bowl is as close to meaningless a contest as you can get in North American sports. The players don't want to play (they just like the Hawaii vacation), and everybody else from ownership to the fans doesn't want to see their players get hurt in an exhibition.
How do baseball fans still vote for Barry Bonds for the all-star game? Baseball fans unite, do what it takes to keep Barry Bonds out of the starting lineup for the all-star game. After all the crap he has put baseball through, why do fans keep voting for him? Before the most recent numbers, Bondsy was third in voting. Alfonso Soriano has recently passed him by a small margin, and as a Cub fan, I want him to get the spot....but vote for anybody to help Bonds fall. OK....so we got a bunch of Bonds lovers on answers today...after ur accusations on Ruth and Aaron, I hate each person you mentioned, Sosa killed the Cubs, McGwire tarnished Maris, and Palmeiro (who I respected a lot) broke my heart. Your right, Bud Selig handled everything wrong....he should have got some balls and spoke out against Bonds and his record. Oh ya, screw Bud Selig for putting SOMETHING in place to control the steroid epidemic. At least now there is a halfway decent random drug testing policy that has caught a couple of surprises red handed. No baseball isn't a church full of saints but there are some good hearted people in the game who give back to the community they are a part of. What does Bonds do....he earns his paycheck, plays when he feels like it, and acts like an *******. Fine, I don't give a crap, don't vote for Soriano, just vote for someone who would represent the all-star game and give the game of basebal some pride. "professionalism and dedicated allegiance to the game he has committed the last 20 some years of his life to"? If he is a proffessional and dedicated to alleginance, let him say it. All I would like to hear from the man is "I have not used steroids" or "I have used steroids" If he would just say one of the above things there would be a whole lot of crap. Answers...that is all I want to hear as a fan of the game. dedicated the last 20 years of his life.....ya lets talk dedicated to his teammates...nothing like blaming a teammate for using one of his drugs (Mark Sweeney). Ya I'd like to call the tattletale one of my teammates. I'm happy to see that I've had a few people agree with me now. I was getting worried that I was the only person who felt the way I did. I hope I didn't offend anyone, over anything. I was at first just curious what kind of reaction I would get by asking this question. I really did think that EVERYONE felt the way I did. And then once I started getting some of the answers my argumentative attitude kicked in. Thank you to everyone who's answered so far....I still feel the way I feel (Barry is not getting a half a vote from me) and feel several (maybe a majority of people) agree with me, but a couple of you who disagreed with me do seem like legitimate knowledgable baseball fans, so I will accept and respect your answers. My final argument....steroids are against the rules. I know Barry could have hit a lot of home runs without them. I just wish I knew how many he would have hit. That I'll (and we'll) never know. Oh and Rosco, you have a deal.
