World Series Winners Knowledge Base
How many World Series winners won their home opener? Is there a statistical relevance between the two? If 90% of World Series winners also won their home opener, that would mean something. If it's between 40% and 60%, I would say the statistic means nothing. Anyone know what the relationship is?
Do ALL participants in the baseball world series get a ring? or is it only for the winners? I had a big argument with a friend of mine regarding the number of world series rings former OF Luis polonia had won. When I proved that Luis had only been in a few world series winner teams, this guy then assured that Polonia had some other ring for just attending the series. Since I have never heard of anything like that before, I didn't have any way to prove him wrong inmediately..what would you say?
Is seeing the Yankees win the World Series a disappointment? Before you Yankees fans start yelling at me, please hear me out. I love watching teams compete. Although I'm a Cardinals fan, I enjoy watching any underdog team come from behind and take everyone by surprise. Even if a heavily favored team wins it all, watching them compete is still interesting. However, I was underwhelmed last year when the Yankees won. Why? Because I think people consider them the "default" World Series winners-their roster is ridiculously jam-packed with high-priced superstars, so seeing them win really isn't that surprising or interesting.
There are eight potential World Series winners......? Ok, there are eight teams that can possibly win. Without rooting for your favorite.... number the teams in order that you believe will win the World series.... mine are Angels Tampa Red Sox Cubs Phillies Dodgers Brewers White Sox/ Minn Please critique my order as well.... Go White Sox!!!!!!
World Series winners? If the Cardinals win the series will Wainwright get a world series ring even though he was on the D.L. for the entire season?
Can you name the last 15 World Series winners, to somewhat prove your loyalty to the game? Without looking up? I said somewhat, because if you know them or not I won't question your passion for the game, just would like to see who payed attention I guess. I'll go first You can either put them in order from 93 to 08 or 08 to 93 it doesn't matter. 1993-Blue Jays 1994-No world series 1995-ATLANTA BRAVES!!!! 1996-Yankees 1997-Florida Marlins 1998-Yankees 1999-Yankees 2000-Yankees 2001-Diamondbacks 2002-Angels 2003-Marlins 2004-Redsox 2005-Chi. White Sox 2006-St. Louis Cardinals 2007-Redsox 2008-Phillies Almost certain those are all correct, but might not wanna copy just in case. Thanks for answering.
Why was there no World Series in 1994? I looked up former world series winners and it went from 1993 to 1995. So I thought "Why was there no 1994 winner?" I looked it up and a website and it said there was no world series in 1994, but no websites told me why.
Should the trophy given to the world series winner have a name? Hockey has the Stanley Cup, Basketball has the Larry O'Brien trophy, Canadian Football has the Grey Cup, American Football has the Vince Lombardi Trophy, Baseball does award the Cy Young trophy for the best pitcher in the AL and NL, but there is no name for the trophy given to the world series champion. Should baseball have a name for that trophy and if so what should it be. Best answer will be given to the most original concept. Artistic: You are correct, I was thinking an actual name of a person who made a significant contribution such as the names I point out in other sports. Chipmaker: Your way with words is unparalleled on this site, always accurate and you always bring a smile to my face, Thank you for the contribution. I can just hear Bud Selig say, "It is my pleasure to present the Alexander Cartwright trophy to the owners of the Colorado Rockies Charlie and Dick Monfort".
Am I the only Yankee fan that does not think we should be the chosen World series winners? Honestly we did not improve much we just replaced! CC will get us about 20 wins, we just lost Moose who got us 20 wins last year (yea CC will get us more innings and strikeouts but thats it) Burnett is very injury prone (insert Carl Pavano joke here) We just lost Jason GIambi (32 Homeruns 96 RBIs) and Abreu (20 Homeruns and 100 RBIs with a .296 Batting average) total of 52 Homeruns and 196 RBIs. Unless Tex is trying to win MVP and set records he cannot replace all that offence but he will improve the defence I am not saying the moves were bad im just saying they were not much of an improvement
Is the American League BUYING the edge of being the Home Team in the World Series? The American League has more big payroll teams. With more free spending owners, they are attracting better players. This helps the Amerincan League All Star team have the better players, thus making it more likely that they will win the game and is pennant winner be the host team in the World Series. Isn't this a case of big bucks having a major impact on the World Series winner - EVEN BEFORE the two teams are determined? Georgie: I always enjoy reading your answers. I agree that some of the NL owners choose not to spend as much. This doesn't take away from my suggestion that since the AL owners are paying more, that they are in effect "buying" home field advantage for the World Series. By the way, don't include the Giants in the "cheap" category. They have the competitive disadvantage of being the only team that has to annually pay a very hefty mortgage 4 their new park. Indianalee: Thanks 4 your research. I reviewed it. The top 4 payrolls are all AL teams. Have to go thru 6 NL to pass the top 4 AL in payroll. And, to advance my point, 3 of the top 4 AL teams (out of 12 AL teams) produced 4 of the 8 AL starters and 3 of the 7 pitchers. I am now more sure of my theory than before. David R: "Their payroll may be less, but their talent isn't necessarily worse." - Most players go to where the most $ is. The better players are more likely to get the most $. Sad 2 say, Cub fans accept less. Olelefthander: I've always liked southpaws -helped my batting average. But lefties' thinking is fuzzy. Not political lefties, who are right (correct); but lefthanders, who have perhaps been dulled dealing with a righthanded world. I agree that "Individual teams are buying their way into a better chance to win the series." BUT, the top 4 payroll teams are all AL teams! Yes, the 3 teams you mentioned are in contention. But, only one of them is in a division with the top 4 payroll teams. Revenue sharing as presently constituted is not working and is not the answer. First of all, it doesn't seem to impair the top payroll teams frim continuing their spending. For example, with all the Yankees' broadcast and telecast income, their "tax" (revenue sharing) hardly impacts them. Second, what's the use of revenue sharing, if there is no requirement that the teams that receive the extra money are not required to spend it on player salaries? We need either an NFL or NBA type $ cap. It is indisputable that playing home is an advantage. Yes, fans don't win games; players do. But you definitely may play differenly if you know that you have the last "at bats". There is no manager who would not prefer home field. That's why iis is called "home field advantage". David W: I only agree that if it's a sweep by the team that is the visiting for the first 2 games - perhaps it doesn't matter. If it's a sweep by the team that was home (had the "home field advantage" for 4 of the potential 7 games) then it does matter. Despite what the Red Sox did 2 years ago, the winner of the first two games rarely loses the World Series. Being at home for the first 2 games is a major advantage. jssc.lynn: I agree that the AL teams that spend the big $ are mainly trying to be the best in the AL. However, if those teams are attracting the best players to the AL, then, it follows that the AL could have the best players. And yes, from "Damm Yankees" - "You Gotta Have Heart". K: "The white sox don't buy talent. It's home grown" (like Tome???) But, the fact that talent is "home grown" does not make a difference. Just because it's home grown does not mean that it stays home. For it to stay, it has to be compen$ated. A team that spends has an advantage in keeping its homegrown talent. Take Oakland for example. Few would disagree that the A's consistently have the best young talent. Billy Beane definitely knows what he's doing. The problem for the Oakland franchise is that they (allegedly) do not have the $ to keep their top talent. As a result, former top A's talent is now earning big $ - with other teams. In the past off season, Oakland diverted from tradition and modestly ventured into the free agent waters. Mary: Yes, we can AND DO all get along. We all love and enjoy THE game. That's why we're on subject here. I'd just like there to be a more competitive playing field. It may never be level , but that shouldn't stop us from trying.
World series? Why are baseball playoffs called world series ? what other contries are playing beside US and Canada ? it's like in the NBA, the winner is world champion. it doesn't make sense only canadian and american teams are playing. it bothers me and it's like saying that americans are the only one in the world.

Should the winner of the World Series participate in the international championship games? I think it would be great if the team that won the WS every year went on the international world championship and competed with other countries! Firstly, it would be great to see how that team did against countries that are poorer but hardcore about baseball (Dominican Republic, I'm looking at you). Secondly, It would stop all of those "Why do you call it the World Series if it's only North American teams" questions. I know that the championship takes place during the regular season, but just imagine something could be worked out...wouldn't it be thrilling? I want to hear what other people think about this. I realise it probably won't happen any time soon, but a girl can dream, right?
Who will win the 2008 World Series? By the way the Cubs are playing from their pitching, outstanding hitting and well playing rookies I think they will win it all. But the Phillies are also good......and the White Sox's pitching has been all out outstanding. Who do you think will win? Name the division winners plus wild card then the playoff standings until you get a world series winner! Heres mine AL Central-White Sox AL East- Red Sox AL West- Angels AL Wild Card- Rays NL Central- Cubs NL East- Phillies NL West- Diamondbacks NL Wild Card- Florida Marlins Playoffs! AL Championship- Angels vs. Red Sox Winner: Angels *note: The White Sox have a good team but their offense is too inconsistant to win a Championship game! NL Championship- Cubs vs. Phillies Winner: Cubs *note- the Cubs starting pitching needs to be more consistant but their offense is too good to not win a world series World Series Winner***- The Chicago Cubs
the world series? why is it called this while baseball is only played in the US? the football world cup is open and played for by countrys from all over the world yet in the US only american teams play in the "world series" is this cos its the only way the americans can be world winners. football, rugby, chricket you never see them play in theses and not only that baceball or rounders as its known in britain is only payed by children, what does that say???
World Series formula for predicting the winner??? A former math teacher told us once that there is a formula for predicting the World Series winner which is very, very accurate. I don't remember the specifics, however, it had something to do with the 2 teams total number of triples and their ERA during the regular season. (There was more to it than that though). If anyone has heard of this formula or one similar...please pass it along. It would certainly help me before I go to Vegas.
World Series Winner? Now that the Yankees are cooked ( well, we be by tomorrow) I believe the series will be the Red Sox & Rockies. If these two teams do meet for the championship which do you think will win? P.S. LMAOOOOOO@ Yankee fans
Do you think that the Boston Redsox will win the 2009 World Series this November? Yes,The 2009 World Series winner will be in November. The World Series starts on October 28 according to Wikipedia. So my question is,right now the Redsox are the 2nd best team in the MLB right now. They are loaded,Great pitching,Awesome bullpen,Great hitters, and a excellent Manager. If we beat the Rays last year,I'm positive that we would have beat the Philles and win 2 straight world series, and if we did that and won this year again,We would have a 3-Peat. edit:I see that there are alot of Redsox haters in this section, thumbing down all the redsox favored answers
