Walk Off Home Run Knowledge Base
What is a walk-off home run in baseball? I just saw the Dodgers beat the Mets by a "walk-off home run" in the 13th inning. I don't know what that means. Wow! Thank you, guys. Six answers within the firs ten minutes! Thanks. Oops. I'm trying to edit: "firs" should have been "first." And "six" should have been "seven."
What walk-off home run call was this? I'm looking for the video clip of a walk off home run where the announcer yells "The unbelievable has happened. Fly, fly, fly away!" I thought it was the Ichiro walk-off against Rivera, but I can't find it. Does anyone know where to find the video?
What was the greatest walk-off home run ever hit (NOT by a player on your team)? I'm a Twins fan, so my biased opinion is that Kirby Puckett's Game 6 shot in 1991 was the greatest walk-off homer ever. But I'm looking for an objective answer here. Pick a player who didn't play for your team. Who's the best ever: Bobby Thompson? Bill Mazeroski? Carlton Fisk? Joe Carter? Somebody Else? Let's hear it!
who are the active major league baseball walk-off home run leaders? I know that David Ortiz has six, and I know the top 12 all-time, only Barry Bonds is among that group with ten. Jimmie Foxx, Stan Musial, Babe Ruth, Frank Robinson and Mickey Mantle are the all-time leaders with 12. But I want to know the current active all-time leaders list.
Why do they say "walk-off" run, "walk-off" home run, etc.? I realize they mean that the teams "walk off" the field because the run or home run ends the game...but why don't they just say that? Why don't they call it a "game winning run" or a "game winning homerun"? The other day I heard a sportscaster start to say "game winning", caught himself and changed to "walk off." I don't get it.
About last night walk off home run hit by Texas' Cruz? Can any one explain me why all 4 runs counted when only one run was necessary to win the game? I have always known that in the last inning, with a game tied, a hitter who his a HR with a man on base has only to touch first base in order to win the game.
What is a walk-off home run? Where, when and why did the term "walk-off" come into being? I actually find the term a little annoying. Thanks in advance for your input.
What is a walk off hit or home run? During the latter stages of a baseball game, the term 'walk off' comes up quite a bit. I'm not understanding what a walk off hit/home run is....
