Negro Baseball Hall Of Fame Knowledge Base
Is the Baseball Hall of Fame only for MLB and the Negro Leagues? I've always wondered. Do they only induct people based on what they did in American baseball or does amateur, college and International play count too? Because Julio Franco has more than 4000 hits total if you count his non-MLB hits and I was wondering if he's going to make it.
How many African-Americans are in the Baseball Hall of Fame? I am doing a research paper on the influence of Jackie Robinson on baseball. I wanted to give a stat about how many African-American players, Negro League players included, are in the Hall of Fame. I could go through and count, but I really want to get this paper done in the meantime. If anybody knows, or would be willing to count, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the answers.
Do you think America is racist (Twards whites)????? (This is the second time I asked this question the first time I only got one response) I am a college student and they have special scholarships for black people, latinos, ect. If there was a scholarship for whites that would be considered racist! Also we have BET (black entertainment Television). What would people think if there was a WET (white entertainment television). What about the negro baseball hall of fame. Maybe there should be a White hall of fame??? I personally believe today that our coutry is still racist and white people generally get the short end of the stick.
Is it appropriate for a white person to wear the jersey of a famous player from the Negro Leagues? I'm a huge fan of baseball, and especially of the Phillies. I recently purchased a jersey of Slim Jones, a famous pitcher on the Philadelphia Stars in the Negro Leagues, and someone honored in the Major League Hall of Fame. A friend told me that being white, it would not be right to wear a jersey from the Negro League. I think he's crazy. He was a great pitcher and the jersey is really great looking. I wasn't even considering race when I purchased the jersey. Am I the crazy to think that its not about race but the fact that he was an amazing pitcher? Any guidance on this would be greatly appreciated

I need my paper graded! Grade it? ill do start!? “I had only one superstition. I made sure to touch all the bases when I hit a home run.” --Babe Ruth “I never doubted my ability, but when you hear all your life you're inferior, it makes you wonder if the other guys have something you've never seen before. If they do, I'm still looking for it. “ -- Hank Aarons Long considered two of the best baseball players of all time, Babe Ruth and Hank Aaron, forever changed the game with the way they destroyed the baseball and sent them out of the park. Babe Ruth forever changed the game of baseball in American fields because of his record breaking statistics. He hit more than 130 home runs in his career, while Hank Aaron hit nearly one hundred. Both characters are still arguably the best players in the game. George Herman was born on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore. His parents had eight other children, but only one, his sister Mamie, survived infancy. Ruth was a troubled child, his parents moved him to St. Mary’s Industrial School at the age of seven, hoping it would keep him out of trouble. He learned to hate discipline but also learned the rules of the game, and grew to love it. By the age of 15 he was both catcher and pitcher on St. Mary’s Varsity team. At the age of 19 he signed his first professional contract to the Baltimore Orioles of the International League. Babe was supposed to stay at St. Mary’s until he was 21, because of the custody his parents had given to the school when they gave him up. So the coach of the Orioles had no other choice then to adopt him. This is when he acquired the nick name “Babe”. George debuted as a Red Sox pitcher in 1914, five years later however, he was drafted to the New York Yankees, where he won 4 World Series championships and 3 World Series championships with the Red Sox. In 1934 he was sold to the Boston Braves and in 1935 he retired from baseball completely. 1936 was the year he got the recognition that he deserved and he was inducted into the Hall of Fame. In 1948 Babe Ruth passed away. Baseball player, Henry Louis Aaron, was born on February 5, 1934 in Mobile, Alabama. He was born during the time of the Depression, and he had 7 brothers and sisters which subtracted the odds of him being recognized. But Hank was a quiet child, but he was determined to be something, by the age of 17 he was playing semi-pro baseball and later went pro to the Boston Braves in 1952. Formerly baseball's all-time home-run king, Aaron played 23 years as an outfielder for the Milwaukee (later Atlanta) Braves and Milwaukee Brewers in 1954. He holds many of baseball's most distinguished records, including runs batted in, extra base hits, total bases and most years with 30 or more home runs at 15 years strong. He is also in the top five for career hits and runs. Breaking Babe Ruth's record of 714 career home runs with his 755 was both a triumph and a trial for Aaron. He was overwhelmed by the media and annoyed by racist letter-writers who resented him breaking Ruth's record. Henry’s baseball career started out in November 1951 where he was drafted by Ed Scott to play for the Indianapolis Clowns, an all black team. Aaron helped lead the Clowns to victory in the 1952 Negro League World Series. “Hank” Aarons had debatably about as much skill as Babe Ruth; he also was inducted into baseballs Hall of Fame in 1982. As of today, Henry is still alive to enjoy his accomplishments. A main difference between Babe and Hank is they had two opposite personalities, Babe was more outgoing, and said what he felt, did what he felt and didn’t look back. Hank had just the same go-getter attitude, but he was more reserved but got just as much recognition that he deserved. Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth fought over many records such as most at bats. Hank won with 12,364 bat were Babe had a mere 8,399. Babe had 136 triples while Hank only had 98, although they tied at most runs with 2,174 each. Babe Ruth batted left handed while Hank Aaron batted with a cross handed stance. If versatility helps define greatness, Ruth was great he could play any spot with ease. However, Aaron was consistent, hitting 30 or more homers in 15 of his seasons. Ruth hit his home runs in far fewer at-bats than Aaron, and his batting average makes jaws drop. Yes, it was Ruth who set the standard early on, and really, he always will.
Can someone check my Capitalization and puncuation please? Jack (Jackie) Roosevelt Robinson 1919-1972 was born in Pasadena, California. After excelling in sports in high school and community college, he transferred to UCLA, where he lettered in four sports: Baseball, football, and track. In World War II, he was commissioned second Lieutenant in the Army. After he was discharged, he joined the Negro League as a player with the Kansas City Monarchs for $100 a week. In 1947, he was offered a tryout with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Before that time, no African Americans had been allowed to participate in the minor or major leagues. After signing a contract, Jackie Robinson was sent to the minor leagues and there he played for one year with Montreal, a team in the International League. Following a year in which he was the best hitter in the league, he was brought up to the major leagues. During the first year, 1947, he showed his greatness and was named the Rookie of the Year. Two years later, he was the Most Valuable Player in the National League and won the batting title with a .342 average. Despite the initial bigoted opposition by some baseball fans and players, he performed with dignity, courage, and skill. Nevertheless, he was an independent, proud person. In the book, “Players of Cooperstown,” Mike Tully wrote, “He Robinson refused to be someone he was not refused to conform to an image of a man who ‘knew his place.’” Sports are such a high profile activity. Jackie Robinson is credited with playing a significant role in breaking down the racial barriers in society. In his ten years in the major leagues, he helped his team reach the World Series, six times. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
