2008 Baseball Hall Of Fame Induction Knowledge Base

The baseball writers should be ashamed of themselves for not having voted in Andre Dawson into the Hall of? Fame as of 2008. Hopefully in a few weeks, we'll find out if he gets in. I think he won't get in this time around, because Jim Rice will and Rickey Henderson. Dawson's best shot is 2010. If you look at Dawson's career stats, it is a TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE that he is not in the Hall of Fame. Take a look at these career stats. Andre "The Hawk" Dawson was born in 1954. He played in the majors from 1976-1996 in parts of 21 seasons with 4 teams, the Montreal Expos, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and Florida Marlins. In 2,627 games, Dawson had, 9,927 at bats, 1,373 runs scored, 2,774 hits, 503 doubles, 98 triples, 438 hr's, 1,591 rbi's, 314 stolen bases, .279 ba, .323 obp, .482 slugging %. Dawson played right and center field mostly. He had, 8 gold-gloves, 8 time all-star, 4 time silver-slugger, 1987 NL MVP, 1977 Rookie of the Year, and many other awards. Former teammate Ryne Sandberg campaigned for Dawson's induction during his speech at his own Hall of Fame induction ceremony. "No player in baseball history worked harder, suffered more or did it better than Andre Dawson," Sandberg said of the rifle-armed outfielder known as "The Hawk." Sandberg continued, "He's the best I've ever seen. I watched him win an MVP for a last-place team in 1987 [with the Cubs], and it was the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen in baseball." Sandberg concluded, "He did it the right way, the natural way, and he did it in the field and on the bases and in every way, and I hope he will stand up here someday." Well, I hope he gets in, as a kid growing up in the 1980's, Andre was also on the highlight films on ESPN hitting HR's with the Cubs and had a great arm in outfield. Do you think he's a Hall of Famer? Also, I feel he was probably a clean player, meaning no roids, but I have no proof of that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre_Dawson http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/dawsoan01.shtml
Chris Benoit being removed from WON hall of fame? In 2003, Chris Benoit was inducted into the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON) Hall of Fame. As a result of Benoit's double murder-suicide, his induction will undergo a recall election in 2008. Benoit will be removed from the Hall of Fame if 60 percent or more of the WON Hall of Fame voters elect to remove him. This is similar to the policies of the Baseball and Pro Football Halls of Fame. [99] On August 30, 2007, Benoit was discovered to have been given illegal steriods not in compliance with WWE's Talent Wellness program for another part of his tenure with the company in February 2006. Benoit received nandrolone and anastrozole. Eddie Guerrero and Brian Adams, were discovered to have been given steriods prior to their death during this investigation, as well as former WWE superstar Sylvain Grenier‎ and ten current WWE superstars, which have been suspended in accordance with the WWE Talent Wellness program look on Wikapedia man chris's rep has been going down the drain now..
How is Andre (The Hawk) Dawson not in the Hall of Fame? I just don't get it, his stats were amazing during his 21 seasons from 1976-1996. Dawson played for the Expos, Cubs, Red Sox and Marlins and posted career numbers of: 2,774 hits, 503 Doubles, 98 Triples, 438 HR's, 1,591 RBI's, and .279 BA. He was the NL MVP in 1987 and was a 8 time gold glove winner and 8 time all-star, and NL Rookie of the Year in 1977. Ex-team-mate and HOF'er Ryne Sandberg said during his induction speech in 2005 that, "No player in baseball history worked harder, suffered more or did it better than Andre Dawson," Sandberg said of the rifle-armed outfielder known as "The Hawk." Sandberg continued, "He's the best I've ever seen. I watched him win an MVP for a last-place team in 1987 [with the Cubs], and it was the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen in baseball." Sandberg concluded with, "He did it the right way, the natural way, and he did it in the field and on the bases and in every way, and I hope he will stand up here someday." In 2007, The Hawk got 56.7% of the votes, falling short of the 75%. 2008 looks to be the year that Andre Dawson, Jim Rice and Goose Gossage will finally make it in, because no other noteable players are due to get in next year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andre_Dawson#Hall_of_Fame_Candidacy http://www.baseball-reference.com/d/dawsoan01.shtml
When does Curt Schilling become eligible for Hall of Fame voting? The reason for my asking is that he formally announced his retirement from Major League Baseball, earlier this year. However, he didn't pitch at all last year (the 2008 season). According to the rules, the first ballot your name can appear on has to be at least five full seasons after retirement (exceptions having been made for Lou Gehrig and Roberto Clemente). For example: a player who appeared in his last MLB game in (say) 1970 could not have been eligible for Cooperstown until 1976 (as the voting would have been concluded around January that year, and induction sometime in the summer). Since Schilling didn't play at all in 2008, is his retirement retrodated to then -- meaning that he could theoretically make the Hall in 2014? Or is 2015 the earliest possible class for him?
