Has any town ever had more then 3 Major League Baseball Hall of Fame members? The town of Fullerton, CA has had 3 residents elected to the Hall: Walter Johnson; Steve Busby; and Gary Carter. There are probably large cities including Los Angeles or Chicago with 3 or more members, but how about smaller towns like Fullerton?

Should baseball Polygraph future Baseball Hall of Fame candidates to be eligible for induction? With the growing confusion of how to approach inducting Hall of Fame candidates in the middle of dealing with the Steroid era should players, coaches etc be polygraphed about steroids and other performing enhancing drugs in order to gain induction? An unknown amount of managers knew players were using and did nothing, owners who either promoted or ignored their use by players to optimize team profit, players who knew crimes were happening in their locker room and did not report it and players used these substances to enhanced performance, earning larger salaries, taking jobs from other players, helping in the firing of opposing managers, and creating an environment where fans unknowingly promoted drug use when purchasing a ticket to a game! The Hall of fame is a privilege, not a right, and baseball has a right to define the rules of entry. If you want in, you have to take a polygraph, if not, that's fine, just your not getting into the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame provides monetary gain to inducted members in appearance fees and hall of products baring their image, besides other things. In addition, they receive an achievement that society honors. If you want that then you need to be worthy and would be willing to take a polygraph.. Baseball and sports in general have a major impact on developing the norms, values and culture of our youth. Baseball and all sports in general, have a responsibility, whether chosen or forced upon them to promote a moral product and a positive public image, eliminating the bad eggs from the bunch. Just like in regular society law enforcement must pass a polygraph to become an officer, i think whats good for them is good for the players, and baseball's hall of fame, just like all hall of fames, can install a policy where future members must pass this test. If I had it my way, all players already inducted would have to pass this test too to stay inducted. For those who would be against. Every law enforment
Who is the only person who is a member of both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame? Who is the only person who is a member of both the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame? What position did he play in Football? What position did he have in Baseball?
Who should be the electors to the baseball hall of fame? The current electors are those members of the baseball writers association of America who have been members for 10 or more years. I propose that the coaches, managers and owners of the teams against whom the players competed should be the ones to vote.
1992 - Roberto Clemente - Hall Of Fame Member - Baseball Legends - 23 Karat - Gold Stamp? gold stamp commemorate hit# 0359 worth? Its in a brown case and it has a stamp that says St.Vincent December 21 1992
Do you think the voting for the baseball hall of fame is a sham? Forget about the players accused of using steroids, I'm just talking about needing 75% to get in. Needing 5% to stay on in future ballots. "The holy experts", the baseball writers, doing the voting. What about letting former players, managers, owners, and such. Goose Gossage not getting again, nor Jack Morris, etc. Then let's not forget about Paul Ladewski, the writer from Daily Southtown, who submitted a blank hall of fame vote because he doesn't believe in letting ANY member receiving a unanimous vote. I'm not trying to make any one mad, it's just my opinion that baseball is screwed up in Every aspect of the game. Really good answers people. Keep em coming.
Members in MLB Hall Of Fame? How many members are there in the baseball Hall Of Fame as of now? Please also give a reliable source. STFU Rock Firestorm it didn't seem like you found anything..bastard but thanks guys who actually found it...I appreciate it
Baseball Hall of Fame, Question? The ballots have been cast and now it is just a matter of time before they newest member of the Hall of Fame are announced. In much anticipation i personally am awaiting to hear the names of Bert Blyleven and Roberto Alomar, BUT....................................... upon further review i was looking at some of the first time eligible. Specifically Jeff Bagwell and Larry Walker, their careers are not very memorable from a fan perspective, except for the towns in where they played, respectively Houston and Colorado. I took a closer look at these two talents on baseball-reference.com and found that their "Bills James Hall of Fame Monitor" is higher then all except for two known steroid users and one Roberto Alomar and their "Bill James Hall of Fame Standards" are number 1 and 2, respectively. Roberto is 3rd and Blyleven is 6th respectively. Just curious if anyone is thinking if these two will some how surprise the baseball world and be selected to the Hall of Fame on their first ballot ?? The link will show you the page that i am referring to and where they stand among others on the 2011 Ballot. Just click on the HOFm and the HOFs tabs in red and you will see what iam referring to. http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2011.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2011.shtml
football and baseball hall of fame? Question #4: Who is the only person who is a member of both the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame? What position did he play in Football? What position did he have in Baseball? im thinking Jim Thorpe, but im not sure if he was in the baseball hall of fame..?
Should there be two votes for baseball's Hall Of Fame - one to vote people IN, and one to vote people OUT? vote out existing members of the Hall of Fame if they were found to have benefited from Steroids. And the usual vote to conduct people INTO the Hall of Fame, as long as they are "clean".
Can someone tell me why former Cincinnati Reds President and GM is not in the Baseball Hall of fame ? Howsam built one of the greatest teams of all time in the 70`s. The Big Red Machine was arguably the greatest teams of all time. Howsam won a World Series in St Louis. In Cincinnati he won 4 NL Pennants and 2 World Series. Howsam hired a then-unproven but a future Hall-of-Fame skipper in Sparky Anderson. In fact when Anderson was hired the headline on the Cincinnati Enquirer read "Sparky Who" . “I thought he was crazy for hiring me.” said Anderson Then, in two masterful 1971 trades, he acquired second baseman Joe Morgan from the Houston Astros and outfielder George Foster from the Giants. In Cincinnati, Morgan would win 2 NL Most Valuable Player award in 1975-76 and earn credentials as a member of the Hall of Fame. Foster would hit 52 home runs for the Reds in 1977 — the only player to crack the half-century HR mark in the 1970s or 1980s. The '76 Cincinnati club, which won 102 regular season games, then swept both the Phillies in the 1976 National League Championship Series and the Yankees in the 1976 World Series, is usually considered one of the strongest in baseball history. The Sporting News named Howsam Major League Executive of the Year for 1973. Howsam also founded the NFL`s Denver Broncos. He built the field that later became Denver's Mile High Stadium He took part in the drive that started the Colorado Rockies as a National League expansion team in 1993. Is Howsam the greatest baseball executive of all-time ? Maybe not but certainly he has Hall of Fame credentials.
Who is the one member of the Baseball Hall of Fame That Should Not be There? There are many that one might find marginal or questionable. Who is yours? I'll reveal mine after a few answers. Along with Scooter, I believe that Whitey Ford is just short of actually being a HOF. He was used more in the style of today's pitchers, give you 5-6 innings and then use the bullpen. However, it was in the era when starters were expected to pitch more into the game, mostly completing them. He had so many WS wins simply because the teams he happened to be a member of were so good. This also explains why he was able to win as manyt games as he did. Put him in Philly or Pittsburgh of that era and he would never have made it to the HOF.
Will Alex Rodriguez be a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame ? I hope so, i pray when he becomes eligible the writers don't screw him over. He arguably might be the greatest Major League Baseball player of all time. His years with texas will never leave people's mind, but he still is one the best. Ashley it's a shame that you're so beautiful but so stupid. Yes you heard me, he might turn out to be the greatest player to ever play the game thats why I said arguably. Right now A-Rod has a career average of .303 with 600 HR and 1,793 RBI. I imagine he has about 6 years left in him. Think about what he can do by the time his career is done. For right now, think about this fact. He is the only player to have ever lead the league in this many categories - Games played, plate appeareances, at bats, runs, hits, doubles, homeruns, RBI, batting average, slugging, ops, and total bases. He has won 11 awards, including 2 gold gloves and is making a case for another one this year. He is a 13 time all star. Since 1996, he's been one of the most dominating forces in sports. He has a world series under his belt, and is playing on the best team in sports. He is doing what the greats were doing and even better.
Is There a Better Way to Select for the Baseball Hall of Fame? I am not a big fan of baseball. But the Hall of Fame intrigues me. Orlando Cepeda was convicted of drug trafficking and he is in the HOF. Pete Rose made illegal game wagers and he isn't even under consideration. Illegal drugs can end up in the hands of teenagers. But teenagers rarely have the money to bet on anything. Isn't Cepeda a bigger criminal than Rose? Then there are those who twist in the wind perpetually. Bert Blyleven put up good numbers. Lee Smith was a great closer. There are many more one could add to the list. A more recent issue is the matter of a career DH. What if you slammed 500 plus in the HR department and have a .310 lifetime batting average as a career DH. Would never playing defense be in an issue? All in all I think the people who elect HOF members tend to focus on things that are far too subjective. But what would we replace the current selection system with?
Should the following players be members of the Hall Of Fame? Every so often I have to bring up this topic so that we don't forget the outstanding talent that these former ball players possessed. It's clear that the Veterans Committee has failed in a big way by excluding these players from any consideration. Not to mention the current baseball writers association who's members, for the most part, wouldn't know which end of a bat to hold, has not done their job as well. As you look at this list just remember that of the 545 baseball writers who have a vote for the HOF, more than half have not attended a major league baseball game in 10 years. Many have been retired for years and don't even follow the game anymore yet still have a vote! I'm not sure what the answer is to correct the situation but for the moment please give me your take with a yes or no to the following list and why you think they should or should not be in the HOF. Jim Rice Dwight Evans Dave Parker Rich "Goose" Gossage Don Mattingly Alan Trammell Andre Dawson Nice pick up Frizzer. Let's add both Tommy John and Bert Blyleven to the list. Bucky - These numbers were supplied on a Comcast Cable round table discussion by 6 Philadelphia sports writers in 2004. Michael Barcam was the host and the comments were supplied by Phil Jasner.
Why aren't announcers/broadcasters elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame? I just realized this. My guess would be because, until about 2007 or so, Frick (and Spink) Award winners were considered HOF members. After all, they were allowed to vote for HOFers with the players after the VC was changed in 2001. It wasn't until 2007 or so that only HOF PLAYERS could vote for HOFers. So, until then, I guess the Hall had never actually stated whether or not they were HOFers, so everyone assumed they were, but now they aren't. As such, do you think they should add 'announcers/broadcasters' and perhaps 'writers/historians' to the VC ballot? And, if so, who should be inducted? NOTE: If I am completely wrong (as in, they actually ARE inducted), then somebody please tell me, so I'm not completely embarrassed later... Clevelandzzz Rockzzz... Um, Umps ARE in the HoF...
Why does the federal government waste my money voting on nongovernmental issues? I just went to http://www.govtrack.us/congress/votingrecord.xpd. That site lists for me the voting records of my federal representative and state senators. Why is the federal Government voting on such things as: Sep 6, 2006-H.Res. 875: Congratulating Spelman College on the occasion ofits 125th anniversary. Sep 6, 2006-H.Res. 605: Recognizing the life of Preston Robert Tisch and his outstanding contributions to New York City, the New York Giants Football Club, the National Football League, and the United States. Jul 25, 2006-H.Con.Res. 384: Recognizing and honoring the 100th anniversary. of the founding of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans Jul 25, 2006-H.Con.Res. 449: Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the historic 1946 season of Major League Baseball Hall of Fame member Bob Feller and his return from military service to the United States.
Would sport fans support an Online Web Site where fans select their own members of the Hall of Fame ? Would sport fans support an Online Web Site where fans select their own members of the Hall of Fame ? The criteria would support retired players from the 4 major sports Arenas: Baseball Football Basketball Hockey 1. They would have to been retired from their individual sport for more than 5 years and no longer be eligible for enshrinement in their sport. 2. They have been dropped from further consideration 4. They are alive 5. This forum would be for sports fans from around the country/globe which would nominate several players from their individual sport and then once a year as a forum, the fans would vote for their top 2 in each sport. 6. Then we could have an online induction ceremony. My friends and I have been debating whether or not to create such a web site and am curious if there was any interest. IE, an example would be Pete Rose (he has been banned from Major League Baseball but he has not been banned from his fans) many believe he deserves induction while others feel he does not deserve it, this would lead to a healthy debate and maybe ultimate induction to the inaugural class of Sports Fans online Hall of Fame. What baseball player is this? In his first MLB game, entered the game as a pinch runner, and scored the winning run. Holder of several MLB records, including one which he passed Hank Aaron for the record. Has won the MVP award. Member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Bonus for which record he passed Hank Aaron to now be the record holder in that category?
Biggest career "negative" for a Hall of Fame member? Which player in the Hall of Fame do you think has the most [hurtful] negative factor against them. Ex. Reggie Jackson, although in the HoF is the 1)leader in strikeouts in baseball. Hope this makes sense.
Name some Hall of Famers that shouldn't be Hall of Famers? For reference, here's a list of the members of the baseball Hall of Fame. http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof.shtml I'll start it off. Chick Hafey should not be in the Hall of Fame. Sure, he was a pretty good hitter, but he only played six full seasons and there were better hitters in his era who are not in.
Today, I've heard several media members say that Kurt Warner is a Hall of Famer mostly based on clutch,,,,,,,,? playoff perfromances. Let's face it, his regular season career stats are nothing spectacular. Can a player be a Hall of Famer based on good playoff stats? Does that mean that David Wells should be in the baseball Hall of Fame? He was only a good pitcher,, but in the playoffs he was usually a Great pitcher!! OR Bernie Williams? Good player, who turned into a great Player in the Playoffs. My opinion is that teh Hall of Fame should be for the truly BEST of the BEST, and these e athletes that I mentioned are not quite there. Opinions??
If guilty, should a lier, Roger Clemens be inducted into baseballs Hall of Fame? By LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writer 53 minutes ago WASHINGTON - The FBI has begun investigating whether Roger Clemens lied to Congress when he denied taking performance-enhancing drugs. FBI agents in Washington opened the case a little more than two weeks after Clemens and Brian McNamee, his former personal trainer, testified at a House committee hearing Feb. 13, each accusing the other of lying. ADVERTISEMENT "The request to open an investigation on the congressional testimony of Roger Clemens has been turned over to the FBI and will receive appropriate investigative action by the FBI's Washington field office," FBI spokeswoman Debra Weierman said Thursday. The inquiry announcement came one day after two leaders of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee asked Attorney General Michael Mukasey to investigate Clemens. The probe could result in charges against Clemens of perjury, making false statements or obstruction of justice. Lawmakers did not ask for a similar investigation of McNamee. Clemens, a seven-time Cy Young Award winner, testified under oath that he never used steroids or human growth hormone. McNamee said he injected Clemens with performance-enhancers at least 16 times from 1998-01. "We've always expected they would open an investigation," said Clemens' lead lawyer, Rusty Hardin. "They attended the Congressional hearing. So what's new?" IRS Special Agent Jeff Novitzky, a key member of the government's prosecution in the BALCO drug cases, attended the hearing and watched from the second row. Earl Ward, McNamee's lead lawyer, wanted to confer with his client before commenting. Barry Bonds, a seven-time MVP, was indicted in November on perjury and obstruction of justice charges stemming from his 2003 grand jury testimony in which he denied knowingly taking illegal performance-enhancing drugs. Clemens was first identified as taking steroids in a December report by former Senate majority leader George Mitchell, a Boston Red Sox director hired by baseball commissioner Bud Selig to examine drug use in baseball. The Mitchell Report was the first public accounting of McNamee's allegations that he injected Clemens with HGH and steroids. Two of Clemens' former New York Yankees teammates, Andy Pettitte and Chuck Knoblauch, have both acknowledged that McNamee was correct when he said they used performance enhancers. In a letter seeking the inquiry, the House panel cited sworn statements by Pettitte, who said Clemens had discussed HGH with him nearly a decade ago. "We believe that his testimony in a sworn deposition on Feb. 5, 2008, and at a hearing on Feb. 13, 2008, that he never used anabolic steroids or human growth hormone, warrants further investigation," committee chairman Henry Waxman of California and ranking Republican Tom Davis of Virginia wrote. "That testimony is directly contradicted by the sworn testimony of Brian McNamee, who testified that he personally injected Mr. Clemens with anabolic steroids and human growth hormone," the lawmakers wrote. "Mr. Clemens's testimony is also contradicted by the sworn deposition testimony and affidavit submitted to the committee by Andrew Pettitte, a former teammate of Mr. Clemens, whose testimony and affidavit reported that Mr. Clemens had admitted to him in 1999 or 2000 that he had taken human growth hormone." Waxman's office declined comment Thursday. Clemens is the latest professional athlete to come under federal scrutiny for statements made about alleged use of steroids or performance-enhancing drugs. Last month, the FBI opened an investigation into whether Houston Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada lied in 2005 when he told federal authorities he never took steroids or HGH. Former Olympic track gold medalist Marion Jones was sentenced in January to six months in prison for lying to federal investigators about taking the designer steroid "the clear." ___ AP Sports Writer Howard Fendrich in Washington and AP Baseball Writer Ronald Blum in New York contributed to this report.
Who is this ? Two former MLB one is in Hall of Fame the other is not ? compare the stats, two former major league baseball players, one is a member of the Hall of Fame and the other sitting on the steps looking in. Who are these two over achievers ?? Batting Average 285 to 262 Runs Batted In 1389 to 1225 Base Hits 2472 to 2092 Slugging PCT. 437 to 439 On Base PCT. 348 to 335 ok, so based on these stats they both should have earned enshrinement or neither should be in right ?? the one in the left hand column is the player not enshrined at the moment. they both had very little experience in post season play but the player on the right was selected to the All Star game 11 times as compared to the player on the left only a measly 8 times. Once again tell me how the Hall of Fame voting is not messed up and biased ?? you make valid points tengrand but also Mr. Simmons was with the Brewers back on those 82, 83 teams and a key contributor. i am not necessarily a Ted Simmons fan but it does bother me how political voting is anymore for the Hall of Shame, but then again even way back when in the 40's and 50's most of those men that entered the Hall of Shame were elected by the veterans committee, then consisting of former team mates already elected to the Hall of Fame by the writers.

Is hank aaron really an eagle scout? I was looking on wikipedia and read this, Henry "Hank" Aaron; Retired baseball player and member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. Athlete (baseball). He is a recipient of the Silver Buffalo Award. He is often thought to be an Eagle Scout because of an advertisement he did for the BSA. Is this true??
The Hall of Fame and batters milestones ? A lot of fans argue that players are not judged by the numbers that they reach(the numbers are not that important in the grand scheme of things). The magical 500 Home Run club, how about 3000 hits and .300 Batting Average, 1500 RBI's and the list goes on. When it comes to the baseball writers in all of us here is the difference between making the Hall of Fame and being ousted in your 5th year of eligibility. I want to show you that in fact it does. Here are two similar players (their names are not important) with similar counting stats, one is a member of the Hall of Fame and the other well........will have to buy a ticket like you and I. I will list their numbers in this order: Seasons/Hits/HR's/RBI's and BA,SLG,OPS 22/2866/384/1628/.289/.356/.465 22/3007/399/1583/.297/.376/.480 Now tell me, why does one deserve a Hall of Fame plaque and the other doesn't ?? 140 Base Knocks ? 16 4 Baggers ? FYI: In player B's final year he was solely used as a DH and hit 146 hits and 13 HR's in 147 games, just something to chew on when commenting. Jim Kaat: 16 Gold Gloves and 283 wins, not in the Hall of fame. So this argument does not hold water. An interesting debate Diego, but i would argue that being 60 feet 6 inches from the batted ball is much more daunting then being in right field and handling (maybe) 33 percent of all batted balls ? Very good argument, and yes player B is Al Kaline. But this is my argument also that counting stats are to highly factored when making choices for the Hall of Fame. You are correct Chip, the other player is HB and i agree with your debate that AK was the better all around athlete completely.I am just trying to show that if HB had hit those last 140 base knocks or 16 more HR's, he would have been a first ballot guy like AK, and lets not forget someone who you support for eventual enshrinement EM was primarily a DH also.
Should Manny go into the Hall of Fame as a member of the Indians, Red Sox, Dodgers or Rays? Indians would make some sense. That's where he got his start and he had some amazing seasons. Red Sox seems like an obvious choice since this is the team Manny is most identified with and where he won the World Series but Manny and the BoSox parted on bad terms so maybe that won't happen. He didn't play very long for the Dodgers but there were stretches for the Dodgers where he played the best baseball he's ever played. Rays might actually be a decent choice. Yes, he didn't spend much time there but the Rays don't have a lot of hall of famers so Manny would be a big fish in a small pond. Plus, it might be a nice conciliatory gesture between both him and the club to show that there are no hard feelings. What's your pick? If Manny is elected into the HOF, what team should he go in under?
Are they putting too many people into the Hall of Fame? I don't mean to disparage this year's current inductees, nor anyone else in particular. But aren't too many people too easily being inducted into the Hall of Fame? It's meant to be a place for "baseball gods," not just really good players/managers/etc. I understand that its a place to immortalize the history of the game, and many people affect baseball history, but shouldn't the Hall of Fame be a place for only the greatest of the great? Do they need to be adding multiple people every year (there were six inductees in 2008 and 18 inducted in 2006)? Again, I'm not saying that the current members aren't all important; but isn't the highest acclaim in baseball, something that can't even be attained by heroes like Shoeless Joe Jackson and Pete Rose, is being handed out a tad too easily. *

Pete Rose to the Hall of Fame - Haters Welcome? Should Pete Rose be in the hall of fame (why or why not) & should the MLB delete the character and integrity requirements of Rule 5? Rule 5 designates 6 areas that voting members should keep in mind when considering who to put into the HOF. Integrity and character considerations count for less than record and playing ability. The Pete Rose Controversy speaks directly to Baseball's difficulty and hypocrisy with regard to "character" and "integrity" issues. There are people in the HOF who have NO character OR integrity & w/ all the Steroid ERA players that are OR will be eligible, I think it's time to look at rule 5 & Let Charlie Hustle in before these ERA gets in! oh do tell chipmaker, what mistakes?

Rock Raines Hall of Fame !!?? Your thoughts ? About a week ago i asked YA users here in the Baseball section to sound off, WHO, in your opinion should we (the fans) support now and in the future to be enshrined into the hallowed halls. You/We decided to support the "Rock". Now i need your thoughts ?? His stat line is not that impressive .294/.385/.425 and he never hit any of the major milestones (IE 3000 Base hits, 1500 RBIs, 500 Home Runs) But his closest comps are those of Runnin Ricky Henderson, Lou Brock and Johnny Damon. With more then 800 SBs and multiple All Star appearances (on those all star laden Expos teams of the 80's i might add). Is the Rock a solid future member of the Hall or is his a one trick pony, either way we said we are going to support Mr. Raines candidacy and now i need YOUR reasons why? Support your answer with facts.
Baseball Trivia 10 pts Best answer? Who is the only member of both the baseball and football Hall of Fame? First correct answer gets best answer
Should Ray Schalk be honored at U.S. Cellular on the left field wall? I'm curious to hear your opinions. Obviously, his number cannot be retired, because he wore no number. He is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, however, his offensive totals are weak. He got in due to his baserunning and defense. Also, he never fell into the pressure of the Black Sox Scandal, and hit .304 during that World Series. He also received votes for MVP in 4 seasons. What do you think? Should the White Sox honor him by putting him on the back wall or not? State your reasons as well. Anyone else want to answer with good insight?
Will Joe Carter ever make the Hall of Fame? In 16 seasons from 1983-1998, he hit 396 HR's, 1,445 RBI's, 2,184 hits, 1,170 runs, 432 Doubles, .259 BA. He won the WS 2 times in 1992 & 1993 as a key member of the Blue Jays and was WS MVP in 1993 after hitting a walk-off home-run to win it off Mitch Williams. He had over 100 rbi's 10 times in his career. 5 time all-star. Silver Slugger award 2 times. Only downside to me is that he had 1,387 Strikeouts and low On Base % of .306. Hey, if Kirby Puckett made it in because of his 2 WS rings, so should Carter. Anyone else agree that Joe Carter should be in the HOF one day? http://www.baseball-reference.com/c/cartejo01.shtml http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Carter
Why should Bonds or Clemens go to the Hall of Fame if Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson cant? Pete Rose, yes he gambled on baseball, but he be on his own team, not against them, and he did what he did as a manager, not a player, so that does not taint his playing career. Shoeless Joe Jackson was never proved to have thrown the 1919 World Series. Yes, he did take the gamlbers money, BUT he hit .375 with 6 double, 1 Homerun and 6 RBI's in the 8 games and was the only member of the team aside from Buck Weaver who produced numbers. What Clemens, Bonds, Pettite, Sheffield, Sosa, McGwire and the rest of these clowns did, is way worse in my mind.
Why do people get upset about steroids in baseball? Seriously, why are people freaking out about this? I thought they made the games more exciting, and on top of that, how could you NOT know the whole time? It was so obvious back in 1998, my 7 year old cousin knew. But get all mad and hurt about it? Players have been cheating since the beginning of baseball, scuffing the ball, throwing games, corking bats etc. There's cheaters, and worse, members of the KKK in the Hall of Fame already, you're gonna tell me PED's are worse? I don't get it myself, I mean musicians use Auto-Tune and Pro Tools for performance enhancement, and I don't see anybody freaking out about that, and that's more fake than athletes using steroids. And don't say "because of the children", because if people were better parents and quit letting daycare raise their kids, than they (the kids) wouldn't have to resort to worshipping sports players. Honestly, a lot of these guys were just trying to level the playing field because so many players were doing it, and if we're talking about securing a roster spot or a contract for $5-10 million per year, almost anybody else would've used PED's too. So why are so many people crying about this? BoobLover - a three day coke binge? I'm not stupid bro...I use heroin. Thanks for the reply though bro, I can just picture your face all scrunched up and red, fists clenched in anger, way to overreact ha ha. And all you guys asking me "how I'd feel blah blah blah...", rest assured that I'd be cheating from the start, so no one would get a leg up on me. And nobody has answered my question about Auto-Tune. A-T is performance enhancement, so where's the outrage? Okay, best answer is between MAC and Andrew P, everyone else can stop answering. I love some of these answers, I'm a first-rate bufoon apparently. Would now be a bad time to mention I'm a Little League coach? Don't worry, I'll teach your kids that cheating is wrong, I just like stirring up the pot. Personally, I can't stand players that use PED's...
How do I become a member of the BBWAA? I love baseball, and I love writing, so I figured that becoming a member of the BBWAA would be a logical conclusion. I know that you have to be a member for ten years to vote for the Hall of Fame and such, but how do I become a member in the first place? Do I just have to write about baseball for a newspaper? Or is there a certain size of newspaper I have to write for? (As opposed to writing for the Hick County Bugle or something.)
Do you think MLB hall of famer Mickey Mantle took steroids? The new book "Cooperstown Confidential" claims that Mickey Mantle used steroids, and an injection of amphetamines and steroids was what caused the abscess that held Mantle out of games in 1961. Here is a part of the article I believe baseball is the product of its times, and if Cooperstown is supposed to be the game’s official chronicler, it can’t ignore the Steroids Era and those who played in it without failing at its task. It’s part of the game’s history. Omitting it, and the players who gave it life, turns the Hall into George Orwell’s Ministry of Truth – which, of course, did not deal in truth at all. Look, I understand the other side of this. I’ve made its case many times. I also know the Hall’s rules include something called the “integrity clause,” which by definition every juicer from the Steroids Era violated. But I also know this: The Hall is jammed with players who violated the integrity clause. As Chafets points out, two members (Tris Speaker and Rogers Hornsby) were members of the Ku Klux Klan. DiMaggio had serious mob connections. Ty Cobb bragged about killing a man and getting away with it; Grover Cleveland Alexander pitched drunk when alcohol was a banned substance. If you’re going to bar Barry Bonds, Manny Ramirez, Roger Clemens and who knows how many other juicers/suspected juicers for violating the integrity clause, what do you do about the Speakers and Hornsbys and DiMaggios and Cobbs? What do you do about all the Hall of Famers who used PEDs – including the many players who gobbled amphetamines at a time when they were as common as aspirin in major league clubhouses? http://www.journalgazette.net/article/20090601/SPORTS0203/306019969/1092/SPORTS05 If this is true we should just put every steroid user in the Hall of fame. And if he used steroids I would not be shocked if many others did who are in the HOF. When I first read this I was like WTF, is somebody joking, thats crazy if it ever turns out to be true. Makes you think did former players back then really pass up PED's?
I need to know what something is worth? I have a 1919-1932 autographed baseball by Tony Lizzri who is a member of the hall of fame and played for the Yankees. I am wondering what the value of this autographed ball is? I bought this at an antique shop and never noticed a signature. We looked at more closely after purchasing and noticed it was signed. The ball has red stiching and very old. Nothing else is written on the ball. If you could help that would be great. Thanks , Nick
Harry Kalas dead at age 73? From ESPN: WASHINGTON -- Philadelphia Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas has died at the age of 73, team president David Montgomery said Monday. Kalas, who also filled a voiceover role for NFL Films since 1975, was taken to a hospital Monday after passing out in the broadcast booth before Monday's game against the Washington Nationals. The 73-year-old Kalas, known for his distinctive "Outta here!" call on home runs, was found by the Phillies director of broadcasting at about 12:30 p.m., Montgomery said. Kalas joined the Phillies in 1971. Before that, he was an original member of the Houston Astros' broadcast team from 1965-70. In 2002, he received the Baseball Hall of Fame's Ford C. Trivia Time--? This artist who was the first member to be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame got his start as a semi-pro baseball player?
Should any writer who missed the steroid scandal be ineligible for the Spink Award? They're in the locker rooms, see the players' physiques, pick up the buzz -- and yet EVERY sportswriter in America completely missed the steroid scandal in real time. What a bunch of incompetents. Should the Hall Of Fame summarily rule that any writer who was covering baseball -- team beat, national beat, only showed up during the World Series to graze the free buffet, whatever -- be permanently ineligible for consideration of its J. G. Taylor Spink Award, the highest honor any member of the BBWAA can aspire to in recognition of his or her contributions to written coverage of the game? Surely the steroids story was a Pulitzer just waiting to be claimed, and no one did. Besides, until the Spink Award includes ALL baseball writers and not just the BBWAA membership, it's just a joke. Bill James should have won a half-dozen by now.
Can you name this entertainer? He originally wanted to become a professional baseball player, but he suffered from a hand disease, and he was also too short to play professional baseball. Had his own television show Had Merle Haggard as a member of his band. Sang duets with Jan Howard He recorded for Challenge,Capitol, Atlantic and RCA records Had trouble achieving success due to chronic alcoholism. Was one of the great west coast sound originators. Wrote Merle Haggard's first hit song. Personally I do believe that he should be in The Country Music Hall Of Fame
2003 MLB drug testing list? There is currently one major league player in the Hall of Fame that could have been part of the 2003 steroid testing list. Rickey Henderson was a member of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2003. Let me make this clear. I don't think he's on the list. But if he was on that list what do you think baseball would do?
Cuba owns the WBC!!!? The small island nation of Cuba has the most awards in the baseball playing world. Back when US and Cuban relations were stable in mob rule Havana of the 30's-50's the Yankee WS and Orioles WS teams played the Cuban National team in friendlies and guess who won - Cuba. In the Olympics - baseball, Cuba has participated 5x. 3 of the 5x they have achieved gold medals and the other 2x they received silver medals. In the Caribbean they almost always constantly beat Venezuela, Puerto Rico (US), DR, and Mexico. In the last WBC they took out Venezuela, Puerto Rico (US), the DR, and the USA and almost rallied back against Japan from a sluggish start. They were caught off guard, but won't happen again. Cubans have always prided themselves in their baseball abilities. I mean a lot of Cuban players made a name for themselves in the MLB and more of them would exceeding the numbers of Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, and Venezuelans there are in the MLB if it weren't for the embargo and restrictions the US and Cuba have. Think about it. Outside of, Rafael Palmeiro - Used to be respected. Is the black sheep of Cuba for his steroid abuse. He is a member of the 500 HR club, but a lot of questions arise concerning Rafy. Jose Canseco - Is another outsider that in Cuba is detested his family name holds no water there. There have been many great Cubans to grace the game and would be more if not for said blockade. Jose Contreras - World Series winning pitcher El Duke Hernandez - Multiple World Series winning pitcher Livan Hernandez - Solid pitcher for a couple of seasons. Tino Martinez - Great first basemen and multiple World Series winner Alexei Ramirez - Solid year w/ the White Sox Tony Perez - Hall of Fame player, Big Red Machine ----------------------------------- Yulieski Gourriel - The star of Cuba's WBC National team at 25 years old is one of the most heavily touted internationals MLB scouts have admitted would be a 1st round pick if ever eligible. Last WBC Cuba beat Venezuela, PR (USA), DR, and USA
