The end of the baseball Hall of fame game in Cooperstown ? What happen to traditions? Due to players schedules , But the MLB DOESN'T have a problem playing games in Japan. Is it because MLB owners are looking to bring more Japan players here? What about the traditions of MLB playing baseball at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Why would you want to stop playing in Cooperstown, seeing that's the closes MOST of the players will get to Cooperstown. Bet if it was in LA or in NYC Flordia they would NEVER stop playing .
The end of the baseball Hall of fame game in Cooperstown ? I heard this on the news , this June will be the last game due to players schedules , since the 1940's this game was played , is it not time for the MLB to dance with the ones who brung um ( Fan's ) ?. Next thing you know they will be moving the Baseball hall of fame to a more "Central " location...
What is going to happen to the stadium that they use for the Hall of Fame Game? We know that Monday is going to be the final time they are going to have Baseball's annual Baseball Hall of Fame game, and the Cubs and Padres have been selected to play in it. But what is going to happen to the stadium that plays host to it after it all ends on Monday? Are they going to delmoish it? I would have to doubt that Copperstown will ever get thier own baseball team anytime soon.
Should baseball Polygraph future Baseball Hall of Fame candidates to be eligible for induction? With the growing confusion of how to approach inducting Hall of Fame candidates in the middle of dealing with the Steroid era should players, coaches etc be polygraphed about steroids and other performing enhancing drugs in order to gain induction? An unknown amount of managers knew players were using and did nothing, owners who either promoted or ignored their use by players to optimize team profit, players who knew crimes were happening in their locker room and did not report it and players used these substances to enhanced performance, earning larger salaries, taking jobs from other players, helping in the firing of opposing managers, and creating an environment where fans unknowingly promoted drug use when purchasing a ticket to a game! The Hall of fame is a privilege, not a right, and baseball has a right to define the rules of entry. If you want in, you have to take a polygraph, if not, that's fine, just your not getting into the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame provides monetary gain to inducted members in appearance fees and hall of products baring their image, besides other things. In addition, they receive an achievement that society honors. If you want that then you need to be worthy and would be willing to take a polygraph.. Baseball and sports in general have a major impact on developing the norms, values and culture of our youth. Baseball and all sports in general, have a responsibility, whether chosen or forced upon them to promote a moral product and a positive public image, eliminating the bad eggs from the bunch. Just like in regular society law enforcement must pass a polygraph to become an officer, i think whats good for them is good for the players, and baseball's hall of fame, just like all hall of fames, can install a policy where future members must pass this test. If I had it my way, all players already inducted would have to pass this test too to stay inducted. For those who would be against. Every law enforment
Do you think the voting for the baseball hall of fame is a sham? Forget about the players accused of using steroids, I'm just talking about needing 75% to get in. Needing 5% to stay on in future ballots. "The holy experts", the baseball writers, doing the voting. What about letting former players, managers, owners, and such. Goose Gossage not getting again, nor Jack Morris, etc. Then let's not forget about Paul Ladewski, the writer from Daily Southtown, who submitted a blank hall of fame vote because he doesn't believe in letting ANY member receiving a unanimous vote. I'm not trying to make any one mad, it's just my opinion that baseball is screwed up in Every aspect of the game. Really good answers people. Keep em coming.
Pete Rose and the Baseball Hall of Fame? Pete Rose was one of the greatest baseball players ever. However, he had a little gambling problem. It did not affect how he played the game, unlike these guys nowadays pumped fill of steroids like Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire. So when will Pete Rose get his rightful place in the Hall of Fame? He was great by his own merit and talents, not because he was roided up.
What are the baseball writers looking for when voting for a player for election in MLB's Hall of Fame? A baseball player retires from the game of baseball, and in 5 years, if he doesn't play in a baseball game in those 5 years, he becomes eligible for voting for voting by baseball's writers, but what are they looking for, stats wise, when voting whether or not to elect that player into MLB's Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. And of course, they get 15 years, where they can appear on the ballot, in case they aren't elected in the first year.
Baseball Hall Of Fame? In the baseball Hall Of Fame, two people have been inducted, that never played Baseball professionaly, never coached or for that matter had anything to do with the actual game of Baseball. Who were these two legendary icons!? answer 1 is WRONG HINT: They were not baseball players!
Should Pete Rose be in the Baseball Hall of Fame? I believe Pete Rose should be in the Hall of Fame. He played for one of the best all-time teams (The Big Red Machine). He is the all time record for hits with 4,256. Any positive record holder like of hits, homreuns, wins, should be in the Hall of Fame. He didn't use any advantage for his performance on the field like performance enhancing drugs or a corked bat. I understand he bet on baseball and games were not fair from sending out losing line ups for the Reds and betting they'd lose and other games he bet on. They could have put him on a long term suspension and fined him a lot. He wouldn't be going to the Hall of Fame for his coaching but for his fabulous baseball playing career. Should they remove his lifetime ban from baseball? I think so. What possibly could he do to hurt the game? It's not like he is going to manage, coach, or play baseball again. What do you all think? Most every other players he played with on the Big Red Machine are in the Hall of Fame. Bench, Perez, and Joe Morgan. Probably more just off the top of ny head. I meant my head not ny head. His personal life should not effect his profession. I've seen what that does first hand. It's not good If this was you would you want people to vote you in the Hall of Fame or not?
Should Luis Tiant be in the baseball hall of fame? Did anyone see the special on ESPN? Is anyone old enough to remember him pitch. I looked up his career stats and he is clearly the best pitcher not to be in the hall of fame. In fact Jim Bunning who is in the hall of fame has pretty much the same won-loss and ERA as Tiant. I think he should be voted in by the veterans committee. Tiant has over 180 complete games in 18 years.
For executing the best play in the history of baseball, should Rick Monday be elected into the Hall of Fame? Baseball is truly an American sport, and what Monday did on that day was heroic. I think that baseball should honor not only those great at the game of baseball, but those that did great things not related to baseball. I am not saying since Josh Hamilton made a big comeback to baseball, he should be elected. But Monday's play was patriotic. I think that the Baseball Hall of Fame should honor him. I want to hear your opinions on this matter. No right or wrong answers, just as long as you respect other people's opinions. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HvSon6L1Js Wow. I thought it was more popular. Interesting. I see now. I know have changed my opinion. He himself should not be elected. However, I believe that a section should be built for his heroic act. That doesn't come along everyday. Due to a few answers, I have now changed my opinion. I just think he should be honored with an exhibit in Cooperstown due to his great play, which you can see. I never said he should get in due to his playing ability.
If there is an honesty hall of fame, no Pete Rose or Barry Bonds: but why keep them out of the Baseball HoF? Goes for McGuire, Sosa, Clemens, etc. They played the game well. Now maybe they had corked bats, steroids, high pine tar, or bets on the game. Fine, keep them out of the Honesty HoF, but why keep bastards that played the game well out of the Baseball Hall of Fame? Joe I agree, but the problem is that catching cheaters was problematic. At best, I bet we caught 1/3 of cheaters (on any list). So, why not just say: the numbers are the numbers, and we gotta go with that because we can't use 'what ifs' to know the true numbers. Haven't seen the baseball news today have you: Rose corked his bat. Now although that hasn't been shown to do anything, it was/is/will be illegal.
No more Hall of Fame Game in Cooperstown ? I heard this on the news , this June will be the last game due to players schedules , since the 1940's this game was played , is it not time for the MLB to dance with the ones who brung um ( Fan's ) ?. Additional Details 22 minutes ago Next thing you know they will be moving the Baseball ha Moving the hall of fame to a place that works best for them...
Should a steroid user get into the Baseball Hall of Fame before Pete Rose does? I believe that Pete Rose never bet against his team. I believe that steroid use enhances a players performance, where Pete Rose only expresses the hope for a possible outcome. I believe that steroid users have damaged the game many times more than Pete Rose ever did. Pete Rose played like he was on steroids when he wasn't. I wonder what these steroid users would have played like without them. I believe that not one of the steroid users should get in to the Baseball Hall of Fame before Pete Rose does. Pete Rose is getting the shaft! What do you think? I am seeing that many of you actually believe that Pete Rose bet on or against his team. What proof can you site. I am not aware of any proof to this matter. I also see that many of you say that gambling has an impact on an individual game, where steriod use does not. How can you say that. Being from a small market team in Pittsburgh, I remember Barry Bonds. Like Ptet Rose, he was a great single, double, and triple hitter. But he was no home run king. Baseball itself is to blame for steroid use, because they practically condoned it when baseball was at an all time low near 1994. I believe the the steroid users of the league through results by playing beyond their natural abilities. They also got paid more money by large market teams which grouped these players together compounding their effect on baseball. I believe that Pete Rose is above this.
Is There a Better Way to Select for the Baseball Hall of Fame? I am not a big fan of baseball. But the Hall of Fame intrigues me. Orlando Cepeda was convicted of drug trafficking and he is in the HOF. Pete Rose made illegal game wagers and he isn't even under consideration. Illegal drugs can end up in the hands of teenagers. But teenagers rarely have the money to bet on anything. Isn't Cepeda a bigger criminal than Rose? Then there are those who twist in the wind perpetually. Bert Blyleven put up good numbers. Lee Smith was a great closer. There are many more one could add to the list. A more recent issue is the matter of a career DH. What if you slammed 500 plus in the HR department and have a .310 lifetime batting average as a career DH. Would never playing defense be in an issue? All in all I think the people who elect HOF members tend to focus on things that are far too subjective. But what would we replace the current selection system with?
DH's in the Baseball Hall of Fame.? Jim Rice became the 5th player in the Hall of Fame with at least 500 games at the DH position. Who are the other four? (Please try to do this without any research).
Do you think the Hall of Fame for baseball (MLB) is tainted due to some players being banned of not voted in? Do you think the baseball Hall of Fame is not as prestigious due to the fact that some players who are number one in many statistical categories are either banned from it (Pete Rose) or due to steroid use (Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Sammy Sosa, Roger Clemens, and now maybe A-Rod, etc). Or do you think the Hall of Fame has gained more prestige because these players are banned or not voted in not because of performance but because of the lack of integrity which makes it the players who do make it more honorable. Would you let guys in who had great numbers and performed well but maybe used steroids, use to bet on games, or any other dishonorable act?
Who is the best middle infielder in the Hall of Fame? THe question is mainly centered on Middle infielders in the Baseball Hall of Fame, so that would mean that they are, for a start, retired, and have played at least five years in the majors. What I'm looking for is not offensive production, but defensive. The firld is pretty wide, but I can tell you who has my vote on this one . . . Ryne Sandberg, played for the Chicago cubs from 1981-1997, and played a stretch of 212 straight games without making an error of any kind, that includes fielding, and throwing . . . during that stretsh, Sandberg's glove got the nickname among some of my friends as "The place base hits go to die." Does anyone agree with me on this one?
Will Pete Rose ever be inducted in the Hall of Fame? Pete did a bad thing. He bet on Reds games while managing the team. Other hall of fame baseball players have done things that were just as bad. He holds the record for the most hits of a major league ball player. It's time for baseball higher ups to quit holding a grudge. What do you think?
Can someone tell me why former Cincinnati Reds President and GM is not in the Baseball Hall of fame ? Howsam built one of the greatest teams of all time in the 70`s. The Big Red Machine was arguably the greatest teams of all time. Howsam won a World Series in St Louis. In Cincinnati he won 4 NL Pennants and 2 World Series. Howsam hired a then-unproven but a future Hall-of-Fame skipper in Sparky Anderson. In fact when Anderson was hired the headline on the Cincinnati Enquirer read "Sparky Who" . “I thought he was crazy for hiring me.” said Anderson Then, in two masterful 1971 trades, he acquired second baseman Joe Morgan from the Houston Astros and outfielder George Foster from the Giants. In Cincinnati, Morgan would win 2 NL Most Valuable Player award in 1975-76 and earn credentials as a member of the Hall of Fame. Foster would hit 52 home runs for the Reds in 1977 — the only player to crack the half-century HR mark in the 1970s or 1980s. The '76 Cincinnati club, which won 102 regular season games, then swept both the Phillies in the 1976 National League Championship Series and the Yankees in the 1976 World Series, is usually considered one of the strongest in baseball history. The Sporting News named Howsam Major League Executive of the Year for 1973. Howsam also founded the NFL`s Denver Broncos. He built the field that later became Denver's Mile High Stadium He took part in the drive that started the Colorado Rockies as a National League expansion team in 1993. Is Howsam the greatest baseball executive of all-time ? Maybe not but certainly he has Hall of Fame credentials.
Which team should Randy Johnson represent on his plaque when he enters the baseball Hall of Fame? As I watch Randy Johnson make a meaningless relief appearance for the Giants, I am reminded of the time when a Randy Johnson relief appearance was in a critical playoff game or had some sort of statistical significance. The bulk of his playing career with with the Mariners. He also established his persona there as well as having some pretty prolific games both in importance to the Mariners and his personal accomplishments. While they had success with him, and success that was important to the lowly Mariners, it paled in comparison to his success with the Diamondbacks. With the Diamondbacks he played for less years than with the Mariners, but enjoyed personal and team success with them that he did not have elsewhere during his career. At the point where they had him in Arizona he was simply dominant and at the peak of his game. Their success as a young club was really without precedent or comparison, especially as it was mostly his influence that led to it. If you boil down his quality over a sustained period of time, the argument for the Diamondbacks is compelling. If length of time as well as notable moments in the building of his legend and legacy, the Mariners are the better argument. With recent inductees like Wade Boggs and Gary Carter, it would seem that he would be a Mariner even if his preference was the Diamondbacks. Personally, I think the intangible is how he came of age as a Mariner. It was an exciting time for baseball and with Griffey and A-Rod he really put the Mariners on the map and helped making watching Mariners clips something that people looked forward to instead of something that was a bathroom break. I would not be upset if he went in as a Diamondback, but I think it would be nice to see him as a Mariner, especially if he and Griffey were inducted in the same year. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Randy_Johnson

Should Pete Rose be allowed back into baseball and should he be eligible to enter into the Hall of Fame? Should Pete Rose be eligible to be entered into the halls that houses the greatest baseball players of all time? When his name is referred to someone in the baseball community one might think "he was one of the greatest hitters of all time" or "4256 hits, 300+ lifetime batting average, and the ability to beat out an infield single as easily as anyone in the game" but, when one mentions the name to an average person one might expect to hear "That is the guy that bet on baseball" or "Didn't he cheat in baseball?". This is because not enough people are educated on the fact that Pete Rose did not cheat in the game of baseball. He was a legitimately talented man who gave his all to become something great out there on the field. I mean really, who ever heard of a man with such passion and pride that would give up his body in an all-star game. The man did not cheat like a lot of others in the game such as, Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, Jason Giambi or Barry Bonds. He did not illegally enhance his ability by using drugs to strengthen or better himself. He worked hard out on the field day after day. He did not sharpen his cleats and slide in high like Ty Cobb nor did he cork his bat like Albert Bell, he played the game to the fullest and he should be allowed in the Hall of Fame. The situation that hurt him and his eligibility was something that happened during his career as a manager for the team he used to play for, the Cincinnati Reds. He had been accused of betting on his team and winning money off their victories. This still shows that his team meant everything. Doesn’t it? He should at least be eligible as a player and deserves a second chance. For me, the vote for Rose is a yes. Comments are welcome and please post your opinions on this topic. Dos you think Pete Rose should be eligible or not?
Should Fred Lynn be in the Hall of Fame? Freddy played in 17 seasons from 1974-1990. His career stats were:? 1969 games, 6925 at bats, 1,063 runs, 1960 hits, 388 doubles, 43 triples, 306 hr's, 1,111 rbi's, .283 ba, .360 obp and .484 slugging. Here were his personal awards and teams he played for. Teams Boston Red Sox (1974–1980) California Angels (1981–1984) Baltimore Orioles (1985–1988) Detroit Tigers (1988–1989) San Diego Padres (1990) Career highlights and awards 9x All-Star selection (1975, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983) 4x Gold Glove Award winner (1975, 1978, 1979, 1980) 1975 AL MVP 1975 AL Rookie of the Year 1982 ALCS MVP 1983 MLB All-Star Game MVP Boston Red Sox Hall of Fame College Baseball Hall of Fame Regarding the Hall of Fame, I say, maybe. There are a lot of other guys who should be in first, guys like, Mattingly, Keith Hernandez, Lee Smith, Ron Santo, Ron Guidry, Blyleven, Dale Murphy, Jim Kaat, Tommy John, Andre Dawson, just to name a few. But, Fred Lynn did have a solid career. What do you think? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Lynn http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/l/lynnfr01.shtml
Who here besides me feels that Minnie Minoso should be elected to the baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans? Committee? Minoso, now 85 years old is from Cuba and I believe he was the first hispanic to play in the major leagues. He played with 5 teams from 1949-1980. He is one of 2 players to play in 5 different decades, however, his return to the White Sox in 1976 and 1980 were publicity stunts. The lionshare of his career was from 1951-1964, and Minoso had: 1,963 hits, 1,136 runs, 336 DB's, 83 3B's, 186 HR's, 1,023 RBI's, .298 BA, OB% of .389, Slugging % of .459, all in 6,579 At Bats and 1,835 games played. The Vet Committee should elect him in, don't you agree? He mostly was an outfielder, and won 3 Gold Gloves, 7 all-star teams, and has his number 9 retired by the White Sox. Let Minnie in, you agree? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnie_Minoso http://www.baseball-reference.com/m/minosmi01.shtml

Why is Jim Bunning in the baseball Hall of Fame but Bert Blyleven is not? Pitcher Jim Bunning is in the HOF but pitcher Bert Blyleven is not. Comparison below - Bunning's numbers are first, Blyleven's are second: Years 17 to 22 Career Wins 224 to 287 Career Loses 184 to 250 Career ERA: 3.27 to 3.31 Strikeouts 2855 to 3701 Walks 1000 to 1322 Complete Games 151 to 242 Shutouts 40 to 60 15 win (min) seasons 8 to 10 Seasons w/ERA 3.00 or lower 6 to 10 Opponents Batting Average .242 to .247 Shouldn't Blyleven be there too?
Steroids and the Hall of Fame? I need opinions about The Hall and players linked with steroids. In my opinion, Bonds and Clemens were worthy presteroids (circa 1998) but what do you do about guys with questionable numbers linked to steroids (Palmeiro, Giambi, etc.) Also, what do you do with players that had good numbers in relation to the history of baseball, but numbers that were overshadowed by the steroid era (Fred Mcgriff comes to mind). Finally, does 500 HRs (steroids or not) mean automatic Hall of Fame in todays game (Thome for example). Just looking for opinions, best answer is the best opinion.
best match you played in a baseball video game? hey, im just wondering how many of u play baseball video games and if so, what is the best match u ever played in a game? i have a couple, I pitched a 4 hit shutout with derek lowe in mlb 09: the show and i played a 14 inning game which i won with the red sox. and they were hall of fame mode
BASEBALL: What pitcher has won 20 games but been on a sub .500 team? This question came up as a trivia question between a colleague and myself debating whether or not Bert Blyleven belonged in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame? He won 20 games once and the same his twins won exactly 81 games...a .500 average. We are wondering if anyone has ever won 20 (or more), but been on a team only capturing 80 (or fewer) wins. Thanks to all...
does pete rose deserve to be in the hall a fame? by the way he never bet in games he was in. all time hits leader. yes he tarnished the game of baseball. if Pete Rose is banned from the hall of fame. then i say blast Bud Selig to the moon cause he has done much more and to this day is, what do u think
What Past or Present MLB Players you thought had a good chance at the Hall of Fame on how their Career Started? * Thought have a solid chance at the Baseball Hall of Fame because of how their careers started but will not get into the baseball Hall of Fame? * List as many as you like? * Why won't they get in to the baseball Hall of Fame: - Injuries? - Caught using Performance Enhancing Drugs? - Peeked at the start of their MLB career? - Stopped playing their game at the level they use to play the game? - Changed leagues at some point and was only a strong baseball player in the league they got their start in? - or Other reason(s)?
Who were the 13 Morons that DID NOT vote for Tony Gwynn in the Hall of Fame Balloting? Tony was elected to the Hall of Fame today, garnering 532 votes from the 545 ballots that were cast. What I'd like to know is can we find out the names of the 13 idiots who left him off their ballot? Do these dirtbags know ANYTHING about baseball? I'd like to see them try and justify leaving this great player off their ballot. This happens every few years, when a trully great, no-brainer HOF player comes up for election. I mean, what more could the guy have done for the game? .338 lifetime average, multiple gold gloves, eight batting titles, over 300 stolen bases, and get this - only 434 STRIKEOUTS - IN 20 YEARS! There is a legitimate argument that Tony could be the very best hitter of all time. Anyone who makes his living in any way off the game of baseball and left Tony Gwynn off their ballot for the HOF should be canned! Anyone have an alternative viewpoint to this?
Should the following players be members of the Hall Of Fame? Every so often I have to bring up this topic so that we don't forget the outstanding talent that these former ball players possessed. It's clear that the Veterans Committee has failed in a big way by excluding these players from any consideration. Not to mention the current baseball writers association who's members, for the most part, wouldn't know which end of a bat to hold, has not done their job as well. As you look at this list just remember that of the 545 baseball writers who have a vote for the HOF, more than half have not attended a major league baseball game in 10 years. Many have been retired for years and don't even follow the game anymore yet still have a vote! I'm not sure what the answer is to correct the situation but for the moment please give me your take with a yes or no to the following list and why you think they should or should not be in the HOF. Jim Rice Dwight Evans Dave Parker Rich "Goose" Gossage Don Mattingly Alan Trammell Andre Dawson Nice pick up Frizzer. Let's add both Tommy John and Bert Blyleven to the list. Bucky - These numbers were supplied on a Comcast Cable round table discussion by 6 Philadelphia sports writers in 2004. Michael Barcam was the host and the comments were supplied by Phil Jasner.
What baseball player is this? In his first MLB game, entered the game as a pinch runner, and scored the winning run. Holder of several MLB records, including one which he passed Hank Aaron for the record. Has won the MVP award. Member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Bonus for which record he passed Hank Aaron to now be the record holder in that category?
Do you think there will ever be a unanimously elected candidate to the Hall of Fame? I find it surprising that of all the greats to play the game, no one has been elected unanimously. I also find it surprising that Tom Seaver has the all-time highest Hall of Fame vote percentage(98.84). There's no doubt that Seaver belongs in the Hall, but he would not have been among my top ten guesses of players who got the highest vote percentage ever had I not seen Baseball's Digest's list in a recent issue.
Are Roger Clemens and Barry Bonds the best players ever in Baseball? Do you think steroids improved their game? Some people say that steroids won't help an 80 year lady become a hall of fame baseball player, so it won't help Bonds or Clemens I disagree. I think it does improve their play between 10-15%...just enough to give them an edge over other players. What do you think? Canseco think steroids help more than 15%. He said his home run stats went up over 40%. In Bond's case I don't think 50% because Bonds was good already.
Hall of fame requirements? What should be the requirements to be elected into the hall of fame? In baseball you need a certain amount of hits, home runs, games won and games saved? What should be nascar's requirments?
Do you Fernando Valenzuela deserves to be in the Hall of Fame? His numbers are just average but he was THE icon in baseball in the 80's and nobody has done something like it now; not even Barry Bonds and it is only compared to the season where McGuire and Sosa run for the Maris' record... but that was only a season meanwhile Fernando "created" the "fernandomania" that lasted years... do you think that should be an intangible for Hall of Fame voters? He has been one of the best lefties and in the actual baseball, he could have won many more wins because he could have only thrown so many innings not all the complete games he did.
