The end of the baseball Hall of fame game in Cooperstown ? What happen to traditions? Due to players schedules , But the MLB DOESN'T have a problem playing games in Japan. Is it because MLB owners are looking to bring more Japan players here? What about the traditions of MLB playing baseball at the Baseball Hall of Fame. Why would you want to stop playing in Cooperstown, seeing that's the closes MOST of the players will get to Cooperstown. Bet if it was in LA or in NYC Flordia they would NEVER stop playing .
What is wrong with the baseball hall of fame? When i was younger I grew up watching baseball but after the new set of fans ruined it with all the wining about cheating (like that was something new with baseball) I'm really almost fading away. Now its the hall of fame. Even that now has lost it's lack luster. Cause seriously either you are a hall of famer or not. What takes so long? Bert Byleven and Robby Alamour (excuse my spelling) are hall of famers. Why does it take people so long to get voted in? Jim Rice? I mean really. Your in or you out. What gives?
Will John Sterling be in the baseball hall of fame as a broadcaster? Hes the legendary voice of the Yankees. He has called and been a very significant part of the Yankees over the past 20 years broadcasting. If Vin Scully and Harry Kalas, Harey Carey, Ernie Harwell is going in the baseball hall of fame for broadcasting, shouldnt John Sterling also go in after he retired? What do you think and why?
How many African-Americans are in the Baseball Hall of Fame? I am doing a research paper on the influence of Jackie Robinson on baseball. I wanted to give a stat about how many African-American players, Negro League players included, are in the Hall of Fame. I could go through and count, but I really want to get this paper done in the meantime. If anybody knows, or would be willing to count, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks for the answers.
What's wrong with having a "steriod wing" in the baseball hall of fame? It seems like a perfectly sensible solution to solve the problem of steroid-using MLB players not being able to join the baseball hall of fame. If they just build a section of the hall of fame for players that used or were suspected of using performance enhancing drugs, then all those superstars like McGwire, Bonds, and eventually A-rod could all join the hall of fame and the controversy would go down. But noooooo! This idea has not been acceptable. Well, why can't we build a steriod wing?
Do you think the voting for the baseball hall of fame is a sham? Forget about the players accused of using steroids, I'm just talking about needing 75% to get in. Needing 5% to stay on in future ballots. "The holy experts", the baseball writers, doing the voting. What about letting former players, managers, owners, and such. Goose Gossage not getting again, nor Jack Morris, etc. Then let's not forget about Paul Ladewski, the writer from Daily Southtown, who submitted a blank hall of fame vote because he doesn't believe in letting ANY member receiving a unanimous vote. I'm not trying to make any one mad, it's just my opinion that baseball is screwed up in Every aspect of the game. Really good answers people. Keep em coming.
Should there be a new Baseball Hall Of Fame? With all the current "juicers" in baseball claiming they never did anything. Should there be a new Baseball Hall Of Fame, or just a new wing in the current HOF? Maybe have a "Minute Maid" wing, or a "Juicy Juice" wing in the HOF?
what do you think should be done to change how voting is done for the baseball hall of fame? this yrs. voting is a good example of what is wrong with the baseball hall of fame voting system. the 8 writers who didnt vote. have brought up new conversations about what is wrong with the system of voting in the hall of fame. what should be done to fix this and how? should the voters who didnt vote at all have their status as voters reviewed and possibly suspended or revoked?
Should baseball Polygraph future Baseball Hall of Fame candidates to be eligible for induction? With the growing confusion of how to approach inducting Hall of Fame candidates in the middle of dealing with the Steroid era should players, coaches etc be polygraphed about steroids and other performing enhancing drugs in order to gain induction? An unknown amount of managers knew players were using and did nothing, owners who either promoted or ignored their use by players to optimize team profit, players who knew crimes were happening in their locker room and did not report it and players used these substances to enhanced performance, earning larger salaries, taking jobs from other players, helping in the firing of opposing managers, and creating an environment where fans unknowingly promoted drug use when purchasing a ticket to a game! The Hall of fame is a privilege, not a right, and baseball has a right to define the rules of entry. If you want in, you have to take a polygraph, if not, that's fine, just your not getting into the Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame provides monetary gain to inducted members in appearance fees and hall of products baring their image, besides other things. In addition, they receive an achievement that society honors. If you want that then you need to be worthy and would be willing to take a polygraph.. Baseball and sports in general have a major impact on developing the norms, values and culture of our youth. Baseball and all sports in general, have a responsibility, whether chosen or forced upon them to promote a moral product and a positive public image, eliminating the bad eggs from the bunch. Just like in regular society law enforcement must pass a polygraph to become an officer, i think whats good for them is good for the players, and baseball's hall of fame, just like all hall of fames, can install a policy where future members must pass this test. If I had it my way, all players already inducted would have to pass this test too to stay inducted. For those who would be against. Every law enforment
A question about the baseball hall of fame? I have a question about the baseball hall of fame,my question is.. Should A-Rod and the other ball players who took drugs be in the hall of fame? I don't think they should in it. I would really like to see Pete Rose in the HOF, all I'm saying is if rose can't be inducted into the hall of fame, then why should the ones who took drugs and lied about it..
Pete Rose and the Baseball Hall of Fame? Pete Rose was one of the greatest baseball players ever. However, he had a little gambling problem. It did not affect how he played the game, unlike these guys nowadays pumped fill of steroids like Barry Bonds and Mark McGuire. So when will Pete Rose get his rightful place in the Hall of Fame? He was great by his own merit and talents, not because he was roided up.
Who will be inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame first: Pete Rose or Barry Bonds? Both are among the greatest players of all time. Both have (or will have) all time records that won't be broken for many years. But both have clearly broken the rules. Rose admittedly bet on baseball. Bonds most likely has used steroids, which has long been prohibited. I've heard that one day Rose could somehow get into the Hall Of Fame, despite his offences. Will people hold Bonds' steroid use against him? Which of these two greats will be inducted into the Hall first?
Should Dave Parker be in the baseball hall of fame? Parker has more hits and runs batted in than Jim Rice, who just got in a couple of years ago. Rice does have more home runs however. Parker won two batting titles and an mvp award. He won a world series in 1979. I don't believe that Parker was a hall of fame player. He is close, but not a hall of famer. What do you think?
How much is it to get to a Baseball Hall of Fame Ceremony? I would doubt that it is free to go. I went to the Hall of Fame about 4 years ago, I think it was around 7-10 bucks to get in, but as far as going to a ceremony to watch a player inducted, does anyone know of a price for it? Is there even a price to begin with? although as I said, I would doubt that it is free
Should Luis Tiant be in the baseball hall of fame? Did anyone see the special on ESPN? Is anyone old enough to remember him pitch. I looked up his career stats and he is clearly the best pitcher not to be in the hall of fame. In fact Jim Bunning who is in the hall of fame has pretty much the same won-loss and ERA as Tiant. I think he should be voted in by the veterans committee. Tiant has over 180 complete games in 18 years.
Who should be the electors to the baseball hall of fame? The current electors are those members of the baseball writers association of America who have been members for 10 or more years. I propose that the coaches, managers and owners of the teams against whom the players competed should be the ones to vote.
Should baseball hall of fame do what basketball does? And elect full teams. Basketball's elected six full teams I think baseball could do two. But only need one. Which would be the big red machine. That way pete rose is technically not there but is recognized for his contributions. And of course murders row could go in.
Can you buy documents from the Baseball Hall of Fame? Walter Johnson wrote a letter to my grandfather back in 1928. The hall of fame has the original copy of this and with my grandfather recently passing this week, I was wondering if there is any way to obtain this item of limited historical significance from the archives of the hall?
who were the first 5 members of The National Baseball Hall of Fame? The National Baseball Hall of Fame was opened on June 12, 1939 in Cooperstown, New York. On that day, the first five players were inducted, including: Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, and Christy Mathweson. Who was the fifth player inducted? the choices are: a)Rogers Hornsby b)"Smokey Joe" Wood c)Walter Johnson
Baseball Hall of Fame guideline question? Players that have banned from baseball by the commissioner are ineligible to be on the Baseball Hall of Fame ballot. What do you think of a committee to review this list and have the power to put these players on the ballot?
How is the baseball hall of fame in Cooperstown? How long will it take me to go through the museum? I love museums so i read almost everything. What about the other museums like the farmers museum and the fenimore art museum. How long do they take to see.
Why is Jack Morris not in the Baseball Hall of Fame? The winningest pitcher of the 80's not being inducted is a travesty. 10 inning shutout in the World Series is huge by itself. Numbers don't lie, these voters are idiots. If anyone has a good answer as to why he shouldn't be in I'd like to hear them. Thanks.
Does the baseball hall of fame hide this or what? In 1918, Mathewson enlisted in the United States Army for World War I. He served overseas as a Captain in the newly formed Chemical Service along with Ty Cobb. While in France, during a training exercise he was gassed by Cobb and consequently developed tuberculosis.
Which of the listed players eventually get elected into the baseball Hall of Fame? After some research I've compiled a short list of players that would probably be considered borderline HOFers. Take a look and determine which players you think will eventually get in and those who will not. There is no right or wrong answers so please be respectful. Curt Schilling Jeff Bagwell Jim Thome Jim Edmonds Juan Gonzalez Vladimir Guerrero Trevor Hoffman Mike Mussina Gary Sheffield Larry Walker
Cheap motel/hotel near coopers town baseball hall of fame? I'm thinking of going to coopers town ny baseball hall of fame this weekend july 9 2010,how much do you think a room might cost me from fri to sat only. I'm looking to stay around the 50-65 dollar range can someone help me please with some ideas of where to stay thanks.
Baseball Hall of Fame, Question? The ballots have been cast and now it is just a matter of time before they newest member of the Hall of Fame are announced. In much anticipation i personally am awaiting to hear the names of Bert Blyleven and Roberto Alomar, BUT....................................... upon further review i was looking at some of the first time eligible. Specifically Jeff Bagwell and Larry Walker, their careers are not very memorable from a fan perspective, except for the towns in where they played, respectively Houston and Colorado. I took a closer look at these two talents on baseball-reference.com and found that their "Bills James Hall of Fame Monitor" is higher then all except for two known steroid users and one Roberto Alomar and their "Bill James Hall of Fame Standards" are number 1 and 2, respectively. Roberto is 3rd and Blyleven is 6th respectively. Just curious if anyone is thinking if these two will some how surprise the baseball world and be selected to the Hall of Fame on their first ballot ?? The link will show you the page that i am referring to and where they stand among others on the 2011 Ballot. Just click on the HOFm and the HOFs tabs in red and you will see what iam referring to. http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2011.shtml http://www.baseball-reference.com/awards/hof_2011.shtml
Is the Baseball Hall of Fame only for MLB and the Negro Leagues? I've always wondered. Do they only induct people based on what they did in American baseball or does amateur, college and International play count too? Because Julio Franco has more than 4000 hits total if you count his non-MLB hits and I was wondering if he's going to make it.
Who are some current Major League Baseball players who should, someday, be in the Hall of Fame? I'm looking for players who you believe should be in Major League Baseball's Hall of Fame. They can be current players or recently retired players who are not eligible yet. Please back up your statements with reasons, explanations and anything to support your claim. Thanks. Thanks for your answers everybody. I didn't pose the question for any reason other than curiousity. It was interesting to see everyone's take on the issue and I appreciate your input.
